What made you switch? I believe you used to use VDJ and although I haven't jumped deep in to either one I found them similar

On my system the audio is more stable on Serato than VDJ... But, actually I was preferential to Traktor Pro....

I tried this on VDJ first but, as I mentioned I didn't like how the audio sounded,... No matter what I did it always sounded like I was getting drop outs...

I mean I love my DDJ-SX but, I like the feel of a real record too...

Yes, that is Serato DJ.... I've gone to the Dark Side.... L oL

Is that actually DJ? It looks like Scratch Live to me. I know you can use SDJ with the SL2/3/4 and Sixty-One/Two/Eight but I haven't switched over yet... Serato DJ doesn't feel as polished as Serato Scratch Live.

I don't think you'll regret going to Serato route over Traktor Scratch for your DVS needs. What makes Traktor strong is mapability and all of the bells and whistles very little of which matters in a DVS setup and matters far more in a controller setup. Serato has miles and above better library management and to steal a phrase "just works" which is what most DVS users are looking for.

I gave up on Serato when they stopped support of the Rane MP4. VDJ express (which replaced an older Numark Cue) has been good enough, though I will probably buy the full package to get karaoke support. Traktor DJ on the iPad for small setups.

I haven't had an issue with any of those (own PCDJ as well). I don't use too many features.

The Rane MP4 came out in what... 2005? I'd say supporting it up until ~2011/2 is a decent product life for a digital product with software support... Version 2.2 of Scratch Live can still be downloaded which was the last supported version. Problem is as time goes on the hardware and connectivity doesn't keep pace with the demands of the software... if the software outpaces the aging hardware it will start to perform poorly and users will blame the software not their own reluctance to upgrade. EOL/Discontinuation is the only option a company has. The SL1 and TTM-57SL both got 10 years of new updates... I'd say as far as supporting aging hardware goes Rane and Serato are both pretty top notch.

When users of the newest hardware can't get new features because the software needs to continue to perform on decade old hardware that's bad business... eventually you need to kill off the old so the new can move forward in technology.

You can see the reluctance of DJs to upgrade in the software requirements though... most DJ software still lists the Intel Core 2 Duo which is an 8 year old chip as the minimum system requirement.

You're right that was a shot with SSL on screen... I agree that SSL seems better in some terms over SDJ and miles ahead of VDJ in terms of the audio engine.

Seeing that the MP4 is really only a license "key" and sound card for the software, it wouldn't appear to be much of an issue to support if they "wanted" to, which it appears they have no vested interest in.

Either way, the mixer is ideal for me for my mini system(small, rackmountable, dual stereo USB soundcard) and I would need to get a SL2/3 to get the same capability. For my needs, VDJ or PCDJ are sufficient and I have the licenses already.

The big reason why I went from VDJ to Traktor Pro was the fact that no matter what computer be it my Macbook Pro with i7 Quad core and 8gb of ram or my PC with a simple dual core and 4gb of ram I got the same results whenever using the jog wheels or vinyl DVS to do any sort of backspins or even just baby scratches... without noticeable audio dropouts..... I've optimized both using every technique outlined on their wiki's and still I get horrible sound.

I initially tried to use VDJ for DVS since my mixer was compatible for doing so with VDJ.... however as mentioned above the results were horrible.... even just playing tracks I would get audio drops....

So, I got an SL2 box and with SSL and SDJ I have no audio drops.... scratch effects and backspins sound right... even slow back cueing sounds proper....

I've been using VDJ for years and I haven't had an issue with drop outs. It sounds fine to me. I remember some years ago trying use a pair of TT's in friends apartment and was totally lost after having played on them for many years. I thought I would be great on TT's and I was a mess. LOL.

VDJ sounds fine until I try any sort of scratches... Doesn't matter if I use a controller, TimeCode or a mouse.... I get audio drops and slow start up when I release the platter, mouse or jog wheel.... My laptops are no slouches so for me it's unacceptable...

I don't have this issue with Serato Scratch Live, Serato DJ or Traktor Pro...
