Got my first cancelation tonight for a convention because the entire convention is canceled. Keeping the deposit and since they use me a lot I will just transfer it to another job. Anyone else get hit yet?

I had a junior prom for next week get postponed... but if they choose a date that I can't do, balance applies to next years prom (since they book me every year). Aside from this... unless this virus blows up, I only have 2 events between now and the last week of April (I purposely took time off because of the expected baby). I suspect by then things will have somewhat returned to normal. Due to the nature of my event that I do, they tend to be rescheduled... never cancelled outright, unless its a wedding that broke up. I've never had a Sweet 16 cancel with exception of a death of a direct relative once... and that was rescheduled for 6 months later.

All SUNY & CUNY colleges in NY are moving to online classes & likely most of the other schools will follow suit, so nothing is likely to happen until The summer. And I just heard the NBA just cancelled the rest of the season as some players tested positive.
I am just hanging tight until the Summer and luckily I’m retirement age.
I just noticed about baby “congrats”, Take lots of pictures they get big very fast. My little baby is over 6ft now pushing me around and I remember changing his diapers like yesterday.

It’s gonna get worse for us DJ’s I’m afraid, but probably for just a short time. My guess, and it’s really just a guess, is that this crisis will be over by June. We’re about 50 days behind China, but we have a better handle on it than China had, so I estimate June at the latest. I do mostly political events and fund raisers. Nobody has canceled any yet, but we’ll see. The NBA suspended the season after a Utah Jazz player tested positive for the Caronavirus. The Jazz were scheduled to play the Thunder here in OKC tonight. I have not heard if that player was actually in town, but the game was canceled. If the player was in OKC, it certainly increases the chances of other cases appearing here within the next couple of weeks.

Kind of a bummer about the game being canceled, as the Thunder would have overtaken the Jazz for 4th place in the West had they won the game.😂

I spoke with a person who works for a photo booth company tonight. ALL of the company's business is Corporate.

ALL of their events for the next 2 months were cancelled by the clients. They had to lay off their part time receptionist just today. They told all their sub contractors that work for them they have no work for them for the foreseeable future.

My next event is not until April 25th. It is a wedding. And then May is quite busy. I hope this all clears up by then and none of us have weddings cancel. ...One good thing is that March is usually SLOW for weddings. We don't have any booked this year. So I have no events to lose this month.

Travel to Europe is banned for 30 days starting Friday night on Friday. The implications of all of this is going to slow the economy down BIG TIME. People planning events will hold off to book vendors for events, so expect things to be very quiet for at least the next 40-45 days or so on the booking front.

I am wondering if upcoming wedding/bridal shows will get cancelled because of all of this.

I was supposed to go out for live band karaoke this Friday. The band just announced they are cancelling all shows for the next couple of months.

I'm hosting a party on the 21st. All my friends still want to come.

Weddings and some other events will be likely be reschedule after this blows over. Some events will just get canceled, so there will be a loss of income for some. It should be a short-term thing.

How many who have cancellations are hurt financially by this?
Show me a business that doesn't need money to run and I'll show you a business that's not financially hurt. To expand on this, if you have a business and are properly prepared, then this most likely will not bother you - other than the loss of income for 'x' amount of time. If you are not properly prepared, then this will most likely hurt really bad.

Right about now, I am actually glad that I didn't have any bookings.
I'd rather not have them, then to have them and lose them.
Tis better to have booked loved and lost than to never have booked loved at all ..

Kind of a dumb question, because any time you don’t have the income you expected, it hurts financially. Most of us are not gonna be devastated by it. Canceled gigs happen even without a pandemic.😊

And luckily for many of us....
The first few months of the year aren't very busy.

So ....i was inspired by the major hotel chains and airlines who have contacted my wife and I over our upcoming trip to Italy... they have all contacted us first in an effort to set our minds at ease and make the process of cancelation and/or rescheduling a little less hectic...they also have released statements on their cleaning policies in conjunction with all regulations set upon them.

This morning i sent out communications to all my upcoming clients to ease their minds and get out in front of the situation. In the event of a needed cancelation we are offering rescheduling or FULL REFUNDS...

to be honest... after this whole Italy debacle...i realized the sheer misery of our loss of a dream trip that weve both been planning for a long time... it is certainly not the fault of the hotels or airlines... but they realize the unique situation and are stepping up.

I want my clients to find solace in the fact that even though their celebration has to be canceled...they will not have the added sadness of loss of deposits and payments to my dj service.

Some here will think im crazy.... and maybe i am... but this is my choice.

Well... The Caronavirus is not exactly an act of God... It’s an act of CHINA!!!😂 But I’m treating it like an act of God. I don’t have many events scheduled right now, and no cancelations so far, but I’ll give full refunds on deposits if my customer cancels due to Caronavirus concerns. I’m now trying to find someone to fill in for me if I get the virus and have to cancel.
