I will be willing to put the deposit toward another event...

How many who have cancellations are hurt financially by this?

Anyone will but some are more prepared than others. Losing all that income would be tough but I wouldn't be starving to death or anything

I disagree.
If I book a gig, I've already begun to plan how to spend the money.
if I never book a gig, I don't know what I'm missing.

My mentor told me a long time ago to never depend on the DJ business to pay the bills it was good advice I've heeded most of the time for 30 years

At the radio station...
they just cancelled all of the remaining high basketball games...
the cancelled NBA games...
they cancelled the local pet show...
they cancelled the St Patrick's Day parade...
so we just lost a LOT of advertising money...just in the last two days.

And more is coming, I am sure!

We just had a school dance forv this Saturday cancel. Applying down payment to future booking

I still haven’t heard of anyone getting weddings cancelled, so I’m just curious what that segment of the industry is feeling.

I've seen a couple on the FB groups saying they have had weddings reschedule

I have a wedding to attend in Manhattan on 4/18 .. hoping that one isn't cancelled as I have a non-refundable room rate.

How much of a delay... a month or two? A year? Most venues here are booked solid till November.

I'm not sure they said and honestly I didn't really read that close.

DJ Barr said on Instagram that all his March events canceled...he's a Jersey Boy and works for POSH

Doesn’t mean they’re weddings. I had two sweet 16 meetings this week, including one tonight, and both said they’re not cancelling... and only postponing if they get people saying no that puts them below the venues minimum of 75guests.

It depends... for example... in the Orthodox Church you’re not allowed to get married during lent, and many Catholic Churches don’t allow it either. So that’s why I don’t have many weddings during this time of year personally.

im not gonna lie though... just about every corporate event I know has canceled.

All Corporate functions EVERYWHERE in major metro areas including networking events, and trade shows are cancelled moving forward between now and mid April. Very last week of April, and early May are still up in the air for some.

There are less weddings occuring this year in general out there, so there isn't much data on weddings, especially for this time of the year. Wedding venues, and clients are holding out before making any decision if the date is still over 3 weeks away as well.

...If local Government stipulates a ban on weddings like in Italy, or they mass quarantine, and shut businesses down, then venues and couples would have no choice but to cancel/reschedule at that point. ...This can be a very possible situation in the next 2 to 3 weeks. Let's pray it does not get to that!

Just saw confirmation that all 5 of his requests were indeed weddings...

I believe it... but here's also what's going on after speaking with a few of the dj's I am close with. Venues and DJ's are trying to be as accommodating as possible. Everyone is agreeing with no penalty to allow couples to reschedule to a future date... as long as it's one that they're available on. However, what some couples are finding out, especially one's that wanted Saturdays and at high demand venues, is that they'd have to postpone the wedding till either the Winter or next spring. If you choose to not rebook on a date that the vendor is available then all money paid is forfeited essentially. So some couples are having an easier than time than others rescheduling. The other areas where I'm finding no money being returned is in situations where food, custom items, or fresh flowers have already been ordered. Those vendors are not allowing refunds as that's money lost. That part is directly impacting couples for this weekend, or couples that are thinking of waiting till the last minute to cancel. A few florists have already sent out advisories on social media saying that they'd be more than happy to accommodate a reschedule as long as your flowers have not been ordered yet (as many high end florists import their flowers for their designs).

Now in Barrs case... or I should say Posh's... they have nearly 10 dj's available, so they'll definitely be able to accommodate a reschedule. It may not guarantee the specific dj you wanted, but under the terms of the companies contract, they're fulfilling their responsibilities of providing a dj.

Personally my situation has been very similar to his though in the style of events we do and that they'll reschedule. I have the extra luxury of only having 2 events over the next 6 weeks. Once may comes... we'll see what happens.
