I love to beatmatch and keep the momentum going in a set ...songs blending so seamlessly that no one realizes its changed. But along with this method is the need to shake things up with those type of songs that simply shouldnt be mixed...the opening needs to be heard... the intro revs the crowd up and is more exciting than the song itself.... the kind of opening that immediately has people running back to the dancefloor from the bar or their table...

So what are some of your favorites?

here are some of mine...

In this matter, looping and sampling are your allies...judiciously applied of course.

I love to tease the floor with Got To be Real horns intro during the predecessor song...same thing with opening Guitar riff from Prince's Kiss. (BTW, those two hits play nice together.)

The art is in the mix...and the looping...the sampling...efx...drops...

nothing makes me cringe faster than that stupid intro to Yeah.... "PEACE UP...A TOWN..." ... and every young dj wears it out... i guess they didnt have to suffer through it in the clubs in its hay day... i honestly wish i could never play it again...but somehow its living on and on and on and on...

oddly enough....that smooth riff at the begining of Get Down Tonight still makes me happy

The Don't stop til you get enough intro needs skipped past.... im distressed enough about ever playing MJ's music...let alone hearing his sex voice

Yea, but a lot of those intros are a calling card to the dance floor for some that only hear them at parties/weddings.

guarantee ya get the exact same reaction from the opening beat of YEAH without the "PEACE UP" line...

Also the WOO in "dont stop..." is all ya ever need... cut that in a few times to tickle their butt with a feather...then drop it... perfection

I was thinking about this more in terms of a song I'd slam in, versus blend in. Usher Yeah has such a distinctive beat you can hit that first note hard. But I've never played the "Peace Up" line.

Similarly... if I'm going to play a song like DMX - Party Up (I normally only play the first chorus), I'll drop that hard on the horns.
