OK .. we're on a favorite poll thing ..

Favorite Female vocalist(s) of all time .. can be a soloist, in a group, dead or alive. Not looking for best "singer", but best "voice".

For me, there are 3 whose voices carry me away .. Karen Carpenter, Eva Cassidy, and Whitney Houston. Whitney had the power and didn't stoop to vocal "stylings" like some other divas (Mariah come to mind). Eva died too young and before she started to catch on with the public, but had a near perfect pitch and resonance. Karen's voice was near perfect and I would have loved to hear her on something more substantial.

Oooo... That’s a TOUGH one, because I LOVE me some female singers and there have been SO many good ones. But I’ll choose this one...

I was in CRAZY sports love with Linda Ronstadt for a very LONG LONG TIME. Governor Moonbeam almost ruined her for me,[emoji1] but she was something special. It’s a shame Parkinson’s disease took her singing voice.[emoji20]

If you asked me in the 80's I woulda said LInda Ronstadt as well.

These days, I'm likin' Lady Gaga.
I know you said "based on her voice"...
but the fact that Gaga also writes her own songs, and plays her own instruments
really does add to her appeal, at least in my eyes.

As a vocalist, Lady Gaga isn’t even in my top 10 of current female vocalists. I’d say for pure vocal talent, Christina Aguilera is pretty incredible. There’s been so many great female singers though. It’s VERY hard to choose the best of all time.

Christina has a very good voice, but as a "singer", I really HATE the scat singing (same with Mariah) .. especially in the upper registers.
