Hey djtalk forum! So I had a gig 2 weekends ago which didn't go as planned. My setup due to the size of the room was 2 ETX 12p tops and 1 ETX 18sp. So everything was fine until the last hour of the gig. The Rane one level was evenly lit up on led betters no red. The tops were set to I believe -3db and sub was -7db. There was no red flashing clip on back of the 18sp at all and boom all of a sudden it sounded like the 18sp busted. It was playing but sounded distorted like bass was gone.

Could it indeed have blown or is it an internal amp issue? Im on my 2nd year and only done about 6 gigs. The tops are plugged into the 18 using the crossover settings set to talk to the 18 to use less bass in the tops.

What do you guys recommend I do next? It is past guitar center warranty and it has I believe a year left with EV warranty. I read somewhere that someone blew theirs and EV put an updated amp or driver in them but im not tech savvy so I wouldn't know nor know why it blew. Hope someone can help. Thanks!

Contact EV and let them tell you what to do. If it's still under warranty with them, they should let you know what to do.

Anything can blow but if you were not clipping or driving hard, I don't think it would be a blown driver. I think I'm on year 3 or 4 with the ETX line and ~knock wood~ no issues. I would contact EV and talk to them about it. Depending on where you are, there might also be a local authorized service center. Over time, EV has updated the software on the amps (and possibly other components). I have heard of people blowing the driver and swapping the driver for a different brand.

EV has great customer service from my experience over the years. Had a handheld transmitter go belly up , out of warranty. EV sent me , at no charge a refurbished unit in exchange. Last time I lost a driver the speaker was accidently dropped on the back. :embarrassed:

If it’s still under the EV contact them and find out where your local authorize repair shop is. We can only guess what’s wrong, have an authorized repair center take a look. My older EV stuff was/is plenty reliable but early on when I did have a issue The authorized repair shop repaired it very quickly.,

Hey ODJT! Sorry for the late reply. I had family stuff going on which kept me a bit busy.

Thanks MIXMASTERMACHOM, I'll do that first thing tomorrow morning.

Hey ittigger, yeah I was barely hitting amber on the Rane One and behind the 18 there was no red flash from clipping. I have no clue as to what happened. Luckily the 12'' tops helped me get through the rest of the night. I'll contact EV in the morning. Haven't had a chance to reach out till now. Yeah I seen a few videos on YouTube doing the swapping of the driver.

That's definitely good to know about their customer service. I'll be calling tomorrow. Thanks sonic-vision.

I'm guessing you lost a speaker driver. An amp probably would've likely been zero sound. Good luck with it.

Thanks Rick! Yeah it was a nasty rumble going on, very distorted.

Im hoping its still under warranty. I contacted guitar center to get a receipt from date of purchase and they couldn't even find my purchase. And it was an in store purchase. Tomorrow I'll be calling EV.

I can't much in way of might have happened... but I do have two EV ETX 18's I'm looking to sell.... just in case. ;-)

Sweet! I shall let you know DJ Forbes. I'll be calling EV tomorrow finally.

So, what ended up happening with the situation? Did MrCee get it fixed?

Hey Rick, I'll be calling EV in the morning. Hopefully im still under warranty. I'll report back after I talk to them.

Crossing fingers!

@MrCee , did you get this resolved?

Hey ittiger, tomorrow I hope it'll be resolved. Hadn't had a chance till now so hopefully I'll hear good news tomorrow.

I'll report back on here with the verdict!
