Do you throw parties at home? If so, do you break out your best stuff or do you keep it simple?

Me? I break out my ceremony system. My parties rarely exceed 30 ppl. We dance, we sing karaoke, play instruments and of course lots of eating and drinking. I am way more relaxed in how I do a party at my own home than I would if being paid. Heck, I even use Spotify playlists at home from the same computer my DJ software is on. How about you? Do you go all out or do you chill at your own parties?

I've brought out the A system (EVOX), but generally it's the B (pair of JBL PRX612) or C (pair of 8" battery speakers - currently JBL EON Compact). I don't have many parties here, but we have them all over the neighborhood. I've done karaoke, but mostly it's just playlists of classic rock and classic/current dance stuff.

We do Outdoor movie parties now, I have a system which I only used for my house or events at homes. I never use my larger stuff for home use. I use wireless headphone system for the actual movie showing. Kids & adults love it. If you want to talk just take off the headphones. Pop some popcorn, ordered some pizza, add some soda & light a log in the pit, done.

I brought in my ceremony system to my office job this week to use my lapel mics. All we had to use were hand helds and we were hosting an event that I thought would run better with lapels. But I don't get it out at home. I would have too much temptation to just DJ and not interact with my guests. I need to either be on or off.

I used my compacts, but now use my S1's pro for things out the back yard. I have a Bose cinemate sound system in the living room and a Sonos sound bar and play1's in the basement.

My normal full blown system. Our home is a typical Florida home with a Great Room right in the middle, and the whole house is tile, no rugs. I move all the furniture against the walls and make a large dance floor. What can I tell ya - I like to DJ - at least until The Maestro shows up, passes out the Kazoos, and makes everyone do the first four notes of Beethoven's 5th symphony.

I haven’t thrown a party in a while. At the last one, I used my Pioneer home stereo system, which has its own subwoofer and 5 satellite speakers, and I have outdoor speakers mounted in the eaves in the back by the pool. Attached to my home stereo system is a Home Theater PC, and I use my TV as a monitor. My full music library is on my home server, and I made a playlist that ran continuously during the party, but people could add songs to the playlist from my library at any point. I supplemented my outdoor speakers with a pair of 15” JBL EON 515XT’s, which I no longer own. I didn’t use any of my DJ computers or controllers. I didn’t want to get stuck DJing and missing out on the socializing.

If I was throwing a party today, I would probably use one or two EVOX-8’s out back by the pool. I don’t have a lot of other options anymore. Throwing a party is not something I plan to do again anyway... too much work.😃

You're right - it is a lot of work. My wife, who could divide all history into two periods - Pre & Post Washing Machine - and who also uses bleach like it is Holy Water, actually has me clean the dirt outside our house before guests can come over. Yup, clean dirt, but it's still worth it!

A good friend of mine, who has sadly passed away, used to throw a party every year. I'd loan him a few speakers and a few lights... And he'd call it CLUB TIM. All 80's/90's. Club music. Once he got married, his wife HATED those parties, but he still had it every year.

Cheers to my friend, Tim Axelrod. And to CLUB TIM!

I used to have house parties with musician friends coming over with acoustic guitars.
Reminds me of one of the best House Parties I ever went to, where you were required to bring a home made musical instrument. The ingenious creations people made was only topped by us all playing together trying to make music. Side splitting funny!!

My kinda party

My favorite party is one I haven't thrown in 2 decades but previously used to throw about once every 5 years. It was called a Nuclear Blast party. I would light the whole house with black lights and put da-glow drawings (on heavy craft paper) over all windows to block outside light. Everyone had to wear white or da-glow colors. We'd serve G&Ts in clear punch bowls with dry ice to create a bubbling fog. The quinine in the tonic would glow blue under black light. It was fun but a lot of work.
