Here's an email from the client.

Here are the equipment specs from the venue:
  • Midas M32R mixing console
  • Midas DL16 stage snake
  • X2 SLX4 wireless mics w/stands
  • X2 DI boxes
  • X2 Shure SM58
  • X2 Bose F1 systems powered 1000 per subwoofer and top box (each side is 2000 Watts)

I haven't used an F1 system yet. I may still get my sound system out of the van (to keep it from getting stolen). Has anybody here used an F1 before?

There's someone else too I can't recall offhand but Cap would definitely be the go to guy

Kinda stoked as I've never used an F1. I have an L1 (double subs), but haven't used it for several years. I've heard the F1 is much more powerful. Not bad to not have to haul sound in either (as long as my van doesn't get broken into).

I would simply to use the F1s, and see how loud those speakers will get during high energy dancing! ...I have heard them at the Expo...Great Sound...Just not sure of their power capability!

...Comparing them to the RCF ART 745s, I would pick the RCFs over them...BUT I still like those F1s A LOT. ...I do wonder how those stands trasport though. They seem like they would be bulky to me for transporting.

About half-way thru the gig. Sorry guys, not impressed. Kinda lack-luster on punch, little bottom end and no air on top. Having to really push EQ to get a decent tone and the power is a lot less than I expected. Wishing I'd un-packed my rig. The lighting rig is killer though (myDMX Go). This controller is bringing my heads to life.

Out of curiosity, are you using a program you built or something auto?

A combination. The unit is SO easy you can mix a light show on the fly and it looks great. This thing is absolutely incredible. It's a game changer for me.

I know there are those that will disagree with me, and it's because we all have different taste in our sound and while the BOSE seem to be great for weddings, or corp events, at any youth type event, where you are trying to pump it loud and hard and club style, I do not personally feel the BOSE have that going for them.

The right tool for the right job.

On a fair note I have never used the F1, I did run the L1's for a few years and loved them for certain jobs, but when I really wanted bump, their were better choices.

Again, this is just me, and my personal thoughts on the matter no slam against BOSE..

sorry I am late to this-

I used the F1 subs for 2 years straight and was extremely pleased with them. They go lower than a lot of what is out there, and most subs that size-- are tuned to sound like an 18-inch sub. The bottom hits better than any sub in that size. When I used them coupled under the table it was pretty impressive and outran the KW181 that I used to rent all the time.

The tops DO NEED a little eqing, but once you get it right, they sound good too. I still preferred the super airy L1 which is why I never ran the F1 tops+ the L1 just throws so far!

One thing I noticed when using the F1 subs is that they really need a hot signal to them. I ran them wide open (turned all the way up) all the time, and even then it was VERY hard to get them to clip.

I ran the F1 subs with my L1 model II. I have since sold it all and using the DB TECH ES1203 which is dual 12 on the bottom end, and boy do I miss the F1 subs in comparison. I loved how low they go. They are so much better for modern dance and hip hop. Oh well...

I am actually looking at buying back more F1s to go with my DB system. I know I don't need it, but I miss the low end the F1 subs gave me. The ES1203 has a lot punch but falls on its face below 60.

RickRyan, I would love to know how you set them up. Top to sub, sub to top, what were the settings on back?

Don't you use K series or similar? I can tell you that the F series outrun that, so something was not right if you felt you should have used your rig.

The F1 system has a great sound to it. ...As far as actual Bass. In the back of my head for like the past year, I have thought about purcahsing another Bose S1 Pro, and then purchasing a Bose F1 Sub to go along with the S1s, and create a "mini system", BUT I also figure that a Bose F1 might be too much of a Sub for 2 S1 Pros, BUT it probably would sound pretty darn good as well.

With that said, I'm not made of money, and that Bose F1 Sub is $1,199+ tax. ...It's hard to rationalize dropping $1,200 on a subwoofer when I can get a pretty nice Sub for a much lower price. ...Rick uses the Alto 15 inch TS215S subs. Those are less than half the price. If a F1 Sub did not impress him in comparison to one of those, then either the F1 Sub was not set up properly, OR Those F1 Subs really don't create that much bass.

I remember listening to them at the DJ Expo. Not a lot of hard hitting shaky bass, but the sound quality on what they were playing was Excellent.

Seems many here that HAD the F1 system .. have since SOLD the F1 systems .. that's different from those who've had the L1 systems and held on to them.

I don’t know. This was a house system that was already setup. I had 2 xlr lines that ran to a Midas (very nice) board, then to the Bose. It had that typical Bose sound. Nice, but no real hammer. The subs were lack-luster and dropped off quick out front. Pretty typical to what my L1 rig does. It felt like I was short-changing those college kids but they were happy and I had less setup. I was just expecting more.
