Doing a Sorority formal - think I'll use their sound system

Ya, very odd... But it produced so much content down there compared to any 15" sub I tested.

And I take specs with a grain of salt. Db tech es1203 is listed to go lower but the f1 absolutely destroys it down low.

While the F1 is probably a very good sub, let's not ascribe mythical properties to it ...

It IS a double 10" ... probably is great in the thump region of 60-80 Hz, but it isn't "magical" ...

That would be tough as it's only rated to 52 Hz (down 3db)

Someone's ears are off and it ain't mine. I've heard this "if it's setup right" garbage that Bose fanatics screech but don't buy it. Their equipment is good and it performs amazingly well for the size but what I experienced with that F1 rig was lacking. They had a good (great) board and the gain structures looked correct to me. The end result in the room, past 40 feet, was lack-luster. Don't get me wrong, if I had the same situation to do over again I'd likely still use the house system and avoid hauling gear in but part of me would be wishing I'd brought in my own stuff. My QSC tops smoke both my L1 and the F1 on the top-end. The tone of the L1 and F1 is amazingly similar.

You are entitled to your opinion, but I certainly am questioning your ears.

The fact that you think the F1 and L1 tons is amazingly similar is not true at all. They sound nothing a like.

I also owned the K series, and they are not that great. There are a lot better speakers out there. The tone is not even comparable to the BOSE and the output is not even in the same league. I sold my 4 K 10s b/c they couldn't cut it. I do weddings upto 250 people, and those things could not hang at all. I was pushing them to the max every gig, and when they are at their limit, they sound downright awful. Honestly, it was embarrassing and I felt like I was cheating my clients.

The new K series sounds a tad better, but still has that boxy, almost compressed sounding thing going on. You couldn't pay me to use them.

But.please tell me this Alto sub you think that can outrun the F1. I will buy it right now!

"the whole ain't setup" is not garbage, and you a perfect example. You don't even use the Tonematch, and god knows how the F1 was setup.

I ask again, how were the speakers setup. Did you not have any control of the trims on the back?

great answer. I am not kidding, I have been looking for something that outperforms a F1 sub. Please tell me.

I see no issue with ordering it, trying it out, and returning it if I feel they are not as good.

What size room were you in and how many people attended the event? That can make a big difference. Trying to push a system beyond its limitations to fill a room is not good. It's about the right tools for the job. Since we don't know the room layout or number of people attending the event, we can't say if that system was sufficient enough.

Small room, 100 kids. Nothing wrong with rig. Bose is nice, it just was less than I was expecting.

We can’t determine anything since Rick is not even telling is where the trims on the back were set.

There is also a phase switch that can completely alter the sound on the sub, and I for one have accidentally hit it while transporting.

Any single 12 sub manufactured by EV, JBL, QSC, comes to mind.

Also. probably every 15" sub cabinet and I have NO DOUBT ANY 18" sub cabinet.

About half-way thru the gig. Sorry guys, not impressed. Kinda lack-luster on punch, little bottom end and no air on top. Having to really push EQ to get a decent tone and the power is a lot less than I expected. Wishing I'd un-packed my rig. The lighting rig is killer though (myDMX Go). This controller is bringing my heads to life.
I had similar, unfavorable results while test driving the system on a few gigs...I REALLY wanted to like them.

I believe the trim was around 70%. Didn't pay attention to anything else nor would I make changes to an in-house system that I was plugging into. It wasn't bad, just not what I was expecting.

The deal is, not everyone is going to like the same speaker. What one guy thinks rocks, the other guy thinks is shit. It all comes down to what we personally want. Doesn't make it bad or good, just different.

I've used systems that I thought were lacking but the clients rocked and had a great time. I've plugged into huge amazing sound systems and thought it wasn't up to snuff, but that's just me.

My first time ever was when I DJ'd a prom with a band called Fishbone, the client brought in a huge Peavey system, I thought it rocked, the band hated it. Just depends on the person.
