Doing a Sorority formal - think I'll use their sound system

I heard the Evox system at the networking meeting and to me it sounded awesome! The room was small. What I find it depends on the system and how it's used. In certain apps a certain system may not be good enough and in another setting just right.

Do remember most of us that are in the know will look for name brand speakers that are of high quality. No serious DJ would even consider buying a GLI speaker or anything like it. You already know that is low end junk. The funny part is some will say professional on the box making fantastic claims that you know aren't true. Like a GLI speaker claiming it can handle 2000 watts. You try that if you want and see if that speaker doesn't catch on fire.

As per usual....Youre uncanny web surfing prowse has saved the day... that was some weird instructions (tap screen 7 times) but worked like a charm!

Same here...
but I did notice that it only stays awake WHILE IT IS CHARGING!
So, I guess I'll just keep it plugged in.
(of course, I'll have to wait to buy the MYDMXGO...since it doesn't use the Micro USB port)

I was at a local pawn shop, and they were selling one of those plastic, double 15" speakers with it's own lights, audio mixer and bluetooth. Sticker on it said it was 15,000 watts. (yes, you read that correctly)

Model: QPA-215301
Qaise’s Hi-Fi Bluetooth Tower Speaker not only streams your favorite songs wirelessly, but also includes USB/SD/FM playback. Customize your playback with a graphic equalizer, LED screen display, and remote control. Dual 15” woofers and the 23oz tweeter push 15000W PMPO of raw music power while the RGB LED panel lights on the speakers dance to the beat.

And it comes with 6 power plugs so you can use different circuits ;)

Everything has their limitations. No magic. Would love to meet one of these magical people I hear about😄There's a number of things I don't like about my model 2's and the model 1's before that. Just too many things I really like to switch.

I'm not even remotely interested in the F1. Just not for me. The evox is the only thing I've seen so far that I'd switch to

These guys are rank amateurs when it comes to arguing Bose Scott ;)

im on cloud 9!

i am so excited to use this software live...but had been really nervous about forgetting to touch the screen during dinner music to ensure it didnt go to sleep... that was kinda plaguing me....though it seems like an easy enough thing to remember...its one of those things that makes an OCD fella like myself stare at the ceiling for hours at night thinking about it..

Now its solved!! Thanks fellas!

That time-out issue is pretty major in my book. Back when I was using myDMX 2.0, it would flake out every time the HD spun down. Those kinds of things are extremely stressful when you have a roomful of guests (and your client) staring at you when it happens. I'm glad you got it sorted out. Thanks again for turning me onto that product.

Very nice!

My tablet only gives me 30 minutes before sleep kicks in....no apparent way to change that...so i will have to deal with that

There are a number of free Android apps available that you can use to disable screen blanking. The one I like is Keep Screen On because it allows you to select which apps will disable screen blanking while they're in the foreground. One thing to bear in mind, however, is that Keep Screen On doesn't disable screen blanking while the Android destop is in the foreground. In practice, I don't find that a problem with my Screen Timeout set to 10 minutes in Settings.

While the F1 is probably a very good sub, let's not ascribe mythical properties to it ...

It IS a double 10" ... probably is great in the thump region of 60-80 Hz, but it isn't "magical" ...
I'm a live sound tech and wouldn't call myself a DJ, though I'm often called on to play intro tracks while performers are setting up. There's a huge chasm between subs suitable for hip hop or dub step vs weddings or proms. Dual F1's can work well for the latter but would be trampled underfoot by an audience that expects to feel the stage rumble. The F1's dual 10's can project through a sparse to medium dance floor, but the voice coil's throw just isn't deep enough to punch through a noisy crowd. I think a better alternative for a portable DJ system is a pair of EV ELX200-12SP's - 12 lbs lighter, 1200w peak, and half the price of the F1.

Thanks! Finally figured out a fix within the tablets deep settings.

Only issue I have with the ELX line is the coating seems to shed easier than a dry scalp sheds dandruff. I recall touching the 1st version at a GC store and snapped off a little piece of the coating from the top edge inadvertently.

The reality is most formal events don't require much heavy bass, though it's nice, if used properly, to fill out the sound. Sweet 16s, Proms, etc. are a different story. As for a small sub, I like the RCF 702ASII or 705ASII (both less than 51 pounds) and some here like the (cough, cough) Alto TS2 subs.

Yes, I have and like the Alto TS215s. For the money spent, size and weight, it brings a lot of boom. After using the F1 this past weekend, I'll take the Alto or the EV over the Bose. When you factor in the costs involved, it's not even close. Durability is still an unknown for me. I've been using these TS subs for a couple of years now, no signs of problems or wear.

I'd probably say the Alto is much like the EV, in terms of the coating. Mine gets scuffed up pretty easily, but it doesn't flake off like you mentioned. Now as for performance, I'd say that a QSC KW kills my Alto. It's an 18", hits deeper and plays louder. The Yorkvilles, are better than the KW. For heavy-hitting jobs it kills my Alto, but it's also a triple the cost and 150+ lbs to hump around. This old guy had to trade off some performance for something that's easier to haul. Performance is way more than adequate for 95%+ of my gigs and yes, it hits harder than the F1 (at least the ones I used).

Bottom line, I offered a perspective (or opinion), nothing more, nothing less. It doesn't warrant insults or insinuation.

I used my Alto TSSUB15’s (predecessor to yours) for 3 years, and when I sold them I got a good price (from Guitar Center) because they still looked and sounded great. Those subs never let me down. The few scratches and nicks were easily touched up, and of course I always transported mine in padded Tuki-covers. People can poo-pooh Alto’s all they want. It’s just gear-snobbery!!![emoji1]

Alto subs are a great bargain, the 12's really couple together well when stacked horizontally under a stage. I'm much less impressed with their full-range speakers. I flew a pair of 15" Alto's as FOH side fills midway up a 450-seat theater and used a dbx Driverack PA to integrate them with the EV Eliminator II's on the wings of the stage. The Alto's had strong mids with very mushy highs that took a lot of EQ to match the EV's. They were acceptable as side fills, but I wouldn't use them front and center.

How much more pragmatic does it get??? They looked good, sounded great, never failed, reasonably priced, used for 3 years, and sold for MUCH more than their depreciated value.
OK .. you got lucky ...

Have you heard the newer Alto tops? I installed a pair of 12s, into one of my local venues. When they're set flat, yea, pretty bland but when you use the smile button, they really had a lot more (still not as good as my QSCs though) air on them. It's absolutely amazing that they're building something that cheaply that still sounds good and has decent duty cycle to it.

Agreed, but with that scoop I would've had to roll the low end way the hell off and they'd still be boomy. Fine for a disco but not what you want in a big theater where intelligibility is the issue. Could be 12's would've sounded better than the 15's in that situation, but if I wanted the scooped sound I'd just get a pair of old Mackies.
