Do you get excited every now and then about doing an event?

The first time w3 did an event here the person had t9 be contacted I think to let that person know we were there along with another group of DJs looking to get in to setup.
Mix .. A) You should have contacted the venue to make sure you can get in on time ..

Most DJ's ask when the venue is available on their paperwork.
If the question is not answered in time,
I call the venue a week or so before and find out.

Let me explain it this way. We were told the place would be open at a certain time and the person didn't get there till 30-45 minutes after that time. That's not good business to me. I started on time thankfully. I decided if this happens again then I'm done with doing events there.

Don't take the word of the client .. go directly to the venue to confirm someone will allow you in at that time. Either way, it shouldn't be that stressful to deploy 2 speakers, 2 stands, a few cables and your controller. With 2 people, you really shouldn't be breaking a sweat. Just make sure your music is in order BEFORE you go.

Call the venue... get a contact number. Every venue I go to for the first time I always reach out to ahead of time, find out the load in situation (where are we loading in from, are there stairs, can we get there early, etc), and who is my contact and contact number for that day.

I have a little bit of anxiety on most gig days. I can be prepared and confident, but I'm generally a little twitchy until I'm set up and sound checked. It doesn't matter if I've been to the venue 20 times, I just like being on site and ready to go.

From there I get increasingly more comfortable as we get closer and closer to dance time, which is basically the only part of the work that I find fun. I don't like lugging shit around and setting up/striking audio gear. I don't like corralling rowdy bridesmaids and groomsmen to line them up. I like DJing for a fun dance floor.

If it was just about playing dance music for a fun room I'd probably do that for free. I charge a good deal of money to get through the rest of it.

Mixy you getting a good amount on this gig or is this another we know them, just glad to be back working, it is going to let us get seen gig. FYI for a job of this type well first would never take this job on a Saturday night for its size but say a Friday night would be at least a $695.00 price tag for 4 hours.

Why do we need to know what you would charge? It's not you. Put your ego in check.

Was just telling you because you would have asked. You would have phrased it like this. "Let me ask you this what would you have charged them for such a small party?" then I would have told you and then you would have said "Well then you wouldnt have gotten the gig" To which I would have responded whew one less headache. By the way you not answering tells me you are doing another freebie.

Wrong! I wouldn't have asked you that. You just had to tell what you would have charged. The question is who would pay you the price you just told us? I wouldn't have asked you that question because I wouldn't care.

Now when do an event, let us know how much you got like Taso does. He does events where he talks about how much he got paid and not what he would charge for an event he's not doing.

Ok well tonights wedding I am getting $2800.00 for it. See that was easy. Yet you still havent answered what you charged for your gig tonight?

I have never, ever NOT been excited about doing a gig.

For me, it's more like being anxious.
Right up until the gig gets underway.
Yeah, once the gig starts and its going, it subsides a good amount.

I’m doing my first gig since Thanksgiving. It’s for a bar that is in our convention district. I honestly thought the place closed down due to COVID but it turns out the owner still has the place and wants to open it up for a big convention that is coming to town. They are not sure how big attendance will be but the owner wants to open up for this group. They booked me for two nights. It’s really nothing special from a DJ stand point but since I haven’t played in front of an audience for 4 months and prior to that it was 7 months, I’m a bit anxious. I haven’t even downloaded any new music since November. I’ve been practicing from home and playing online so my skills are there; I just have to get back comfortable with dealing with a crowd. I could actually be overthinking this whole gig. I work in the area where this gig is and I know it’s been a ghost town for the past year. I may end up just for the staff and a handful of people. Either way, I have 2 weeks to get up to speed, which is more than enough time.

Audiences are in the same boat .. they haven't heard much in months. I would guess as long as you don't base things on a Baby Shark Megamix, you'll be good .. :)
