I got an event to do this Saturday and I'm excited about this one. I've been doing the DJ thing for so long I rarely get excited about doing an event for a client. This one is a surprise 50th bday celebration. The guy that's giving this for his wife we used to work together on our day job. He also is in a famous singing group around here called The Silver Stars. They opened up a show for The Whispers at Synphony Hall.

The event is going to be in the hall where we did a bridal shower and it looks like it's going to be in the same room. About 25 people. This is an event tailor made for me. Old school and new school music. The singing group is bringing in some equipment to use because they are going to sing some songs. I don't know how many songs they are going to sing but that's a nice touch so I get to take a break for a few minutes. All we will be using for speakers is the 2 Yamaha tops.

It's been since the wedding in July that we did an event. That's part of the reason for the excitement. Like I said in the beginning rarely do I get excited about doing an event. I just hope it doesn't snow Saturday. We've had enough for sure. It's a tough thing trying to find a parking spot.

You said we a few times. Please tell me two DJs are not doing an event for 25 people.
Mix did say " This is an event tailor made for me. Old school and new school music. " I'm going with a partner being needed for "new school music" ...

My partner will be there helping with setting up the equipment. I will be the DJ performing the event.
Mix .. time to pack it in if you need help for just 2 speakers. Just saying ...

This is the real reason to pack it in though:

When it's no longer fun is when you need to find something else that IS.

I never said I don't have fun doing events. I'm talking about getting excited about an upcoming event I have to do. I still enjoy DJing. Just that I've done a ton of events over my many years of being a DJ and sometimes it's just another event to do. No big deal. That's what I mean.

and that's exactly what Brendan meant.

I talked to the guy doing this event for his wife and I thought it would be in the larger room for social distancing. It's going to be in the small room since it's going to be about 25 people. It's ok with me. Just do the event and that's that. I know the venue. It's a decent place for an event. Nothing fancy. It's a venue where I suspect the cost to have an event there is not a lot of money (whatever you consider that to be). At least it's not a hole in the wall.

My mentor once told me when you lose the butterfly's it's time to stop
Who knew you were a lepidopteris...Does it interfere with your My Little Pony obsession?

OTST, regarding pre-performance anxiety, never misinterpret intelligent concern (cognition) for completely avoidable nervousness (emotion) due to poor preparation and lack of capacity.

If one doesn't get anxious or excited about any gig, that's when one forgets things in preparation for the event. Check and double-check is the rule especially if doing a Wedding or Ceremony.

This event starts at 6PM and I'm hoping we can get into the venue to setup between 4-4:30. The first time w3 did an event here the person had t9 be contacted I think to let that person know we were there along with another group of DJs looking to get in to setup. I hope the same thing doesn't happen again. I like to have some time to relax before starting to do an event.

Hope rarely results in success without a large dose of planning and talent/skill.

What Mixxy is describing is a recipe for, at best, unnecessary difficulty and potential pitfalls...but some individuals can't learn from their own history.

Mix .. A) You should have contacted the venue to make sure you can get in on time .. and B) How long does it take for 2 people to setup 1 pair of powered speakers and 1 controller anyway .. 10 minutes?

A sentient being would.

With or without a stolen catalytic converter or a WiFi booster?

Another issue adding to things is its snowing and not supposed to end until sometime Friday. That adds on to things depending on how much snow we get on top of what we all ready have. I just don't like to have to rush with the setup. I got to change clothes and after that I don't want to havr to start playing in the next 5-10 minutes.
