Valerie may I ask since you've done this many times before, how much do you charge and what do they get for that price?

This is like the manufacturer of balsa wood airplane kits asking Boeing what the differences are between his planes and theirs.

First off they took the cheap way out all the way. What they offered wasn't worth close to $35. They wouldn't spend anywhere near the money to rent a system.

We offer several options based on what they are using the system for, but we have a couple systems in the $150-200 range that are amp rack, speakers on stands. We can include subs, mixer, mics as needed. We have some regular businesses who rent systems and they get a better price than someone we don't know walking in off the street (for damage risk reasons).

Of the systems we rent, the most commong is a dual 8" jbl top on a stand. Pack a lot of punch for a small box. Subs are most commonly dual 15" if used. Depending on the application the rental rack will often/usually include a compressor to limit speaker damage from overdriving. System is similar to our wedding system.

It wasn't my best friends wife who was planning this. So the ghetto side of the family planned this. I went because I was free and it was her family reunion. If they plan another one I wouldn't go if the cost was 50 cents.

lol...$35 dollar cover charge to attend a family reunion...

just let that sink in for a minute.... *breathes*

I Found it interesting that her husband's best friend is a DJ and she chooses to use a cheap Bluetooth speaker and ripped CD's.

Trust me that cheap side of the family wouldn't spend your lowest price for equipment rental. I offered to do it for nothing because it was my best friends wife and they wanted to do things the way they did.

Provides all the evidence I need to know about the host, the value of the best friend DJ and the subject party.

There are some folks that enjoy spinning and play at home with DJ-ing.
It’s nice to have the option of renting equipment without the investment in gear.
I compare it to renting a bouncy castle or tool for a do-it-yourself project.
The job gets done + rainy day $$ for the renter.
Everyone wins. [emoji4][emoji445]

His wife had nothing to do with planning that event. I came up with some suggestions and was told they would only do things their way. All I can say is I will never go to another one. It was a waste of time and my money!!!!!!!!!

I think we've all learned some valuable lessons here.

1) Don't go to a family reunion that charges $35.

2) Dont go to a family reunion that isn't your family just because someone can get you in for free (see lesson#1)
