Very true Steve but there is no name recognition if you are not from the area. I can’t even tell you what towns they located in and I’ve been to a convention at the Mohegan Sun. But I would go to CT.

No, it requires vendors and presenters.
You have to build it - if the expectation is that anyone will come.

ALSO I would like to add that many vendors complained about the very high booth prices for the last 3 DJ Expos which is why they have lost many vendors who realized they can't make money doing the show. Will the EXPO reduce booth prices to try to attract vendors and/or to keep the ones they currently have committed from backing out.

They keep it in Atlantic City because it’s close to the tri-state area with the highest concentration of people. At A/C Majority of the people drive in to A/C. It is reachable by car from over 8 states and at least 5 airports if you rent a car. NYC would likely be their first choice but that’s way too Expensive. In the 80’s I attended the New Music Semiar conferenc in NYC. Those shows where great with evening events at many of the big clubs. Years ago DJ Times tried LA. Las Vegas is where the other guys are, FL would have too many distractions and wouldn’t be cheap. The only places I will consider flying into would be LA, Vegas, Orlando maybe Miami, Chicago or Dallas. Vegas by far is the Easiest the fly into, between CES, Mobile Beat & Nightclub and bar conferences I’ve been there too many times.

In most years, it also ran concurrently with Promo Only's Summer Sessions, an Atlantic City convention for radio programmers and mixshow hosts held at a nearby hotel (usually the Showboat next door to the Taj, once at the Borgata, and at Harrah's in 2018). Those incredible Tuesday night parties at the House of Blues only happened because of Promo Only's involvement.

2018 was the last year of the Summer Sessions, which is why the Tuesday night party isn't what it used to be. I'm pretty sure that DJ Times sticks with Atlantic City because it's cheap to produce the show there, it has hotel options in every price range, and they don't have to keep people entertained in between seminars and events. A show at Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun would be expensive to produce, and even more expensive for attendees.

Yes when Promo Only stopped producing their show on Tuesday, at least for me that told a lot away from the Expo. I lost count how many good artists I saw at PO showcases. The last year they finally put some chairs in the House of Blues for us old guys to sit. I remember I told Jim, how do you expect us old guys to stand all day at the exhibit hall then stand all night watching all the artists.

Just a reminder that discounts and "free" Exhibit Hall passes are available until June 15th (though the dates were extended last year). Not really sure if the show will actually happen, but doesn't hurt to at least grab the free passes "just in case" if there is a possibility of going ...

True. ...Just in case.

However, I can without a doubt say that the show will be cancelled! Hotel/Casinos up there are not even open, and Jersey is not allowing any large gatherings of any kind for a while. ...(The exception are outdoor protests/riots/looting...Corona Virus apparently does not effect people who choose to participate... )

Maybe they'll have it outside .. :)

Oh .. And they dropped room rates to $79.

I updated the First post to reflect the date change of DJ Expo to the week of November 16-19.

Oh...Well then...If the "2nd Waive" of the Virus does not shut things down again and cancel the new dates out, then I may actually take a couple days off of work and head up there.

AC always seems like it's on life support when we're there in August. I can't imagine how exciting it will be in November.

Man, I have been in December (Went down last December), and let me tell you...It is BAD!

No FUN to be had there in the winter outside of gambling in the casinos. Probably about 15% as many people walking around in general as there are in August.

And even the Casinos feel sort of lifeless. November a week before thanksgiving....It will be quiet outside of the Expo, and the Expo itself is going to have a smaller turnout than previous expos. Especially with the DJs experiencing their worst year EVER in income/work.

It will certainly dissuade those looking for a beach vacation .. on the plus side, it will keep anyone who goes together ...

Potentially true .. or maybe this will be a boost for everything (the area and its economy).

A beach resort town with the world's most famous boardwalk couldn't fill storefronts on that boardwalk in GOOD years. There isn't even a full-service supermarket in Atlantic City. I hate to be negative, but there's really nothing there to boost.

A room at the Borgata is $118. That's a good indication of what's going on in Atlantic City that week.

Considering these beachside resorts are generally dormant in the fall, any action would be a boost. As for a supermarket, that's most likely a local Gov't issue - and not a business issue (AC isn't exactly .. big).

The last supermarket there closed in 2004. It's mostly a poverty issue... the average household income is less than $50,000. Despite having 37,000 residents, most of whom rely on public transportation, no grocery chain wants to build a store there. It's just not worth the investment.

Atlantic City also has no movie theater, no bowling alleys, and no recreation centers. That's mostly a government issue, thanks to about 40 years of corruption. Most of the tax money collected in Atlantic City gets funneled right out of the city.

BTW, I love to duckpin bowl...invented in Baltimore and a few still exist.

Me too. The last duckpin lanes here where I live switched to a mix of candlepins and ten-pins a couple of years ago.
