I have 2 proms this weekends (Friday & Saturday) at my venue and a school band concert on Sunday afternoon. Not much money but at least it's events going on. Since I haven't worked any proms this year, and they haven't sent me any lists yet, does anybody have a current prom list they'd mind sharing?

BTW fellas, got a settlement offer from the ex today. That's a MAJOR step forward, even though she's still asking for too much. At least it's hopeful that there's an end in sight. Even the offer today, as is, would be a big improvement but I'm confident that we're going to come to an equitable solution soon. Fingers crossed. BTW, on the venue, I have a stamped concrete walkway going in this weekend. 40'X6' walkway out the front door. I also have an HVAC guy coming in Thursday to finish up my 4-ton mini-split (2 zones) install. Hopefully things will be picking up soon.

Well I can't help you with the list but I'm glad things are moving forward with the ex

Well I have not done any prom in years, and I have not even had a freaking event yet in 2021, BUT I can tell you what newer music I think are really good songs to play, and are trendy!

Check these ones out:

Head and Heart - Joel Corry
Blinding Lights - The Weekend

BTS - Dynamite (This is an Asian Group, and it is a real trendy song...may not be popular in your area, but I bet a thousand bucks teenagers in the Washington, D.C. area know this song and would want it played)

Dolja Cat - Say So (one of the last weddings I did this song was requested by a number of women, and had good response to it on the dance floor.

DJ Snake and Selena Gomez has a new song out came out last month called Selfish Love. Not going to be a dance hit, but good trndy listening song...especially if there are hispanic students at the prom.

FOr a slow Motown Feeling song...Like if they request a slow dance, or you know what...really you could play this song at any time I bet!

BRUNO MARS and ANDERSON .PAAK - LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN. ....I think the song is awesome personally!

Marshmellow and Halsey - Be Kind - Good Listening song!

Now, I am NOT a Justin Bieber fan, but this song is super popular on the radio lately, and 158 million views on Youtube, so I am sure it will go over well at a prom:

Justin Bieber - Peaches ft. Daniel Caesar - It does have a line about Weed repeated in it though...probably don't matter or maybe it does?

GALANTIS - HUNTER (I personally like this song! But what do I know...I'm old at 38 yrs old)

3LAU - Tokyo feat XIRA - Awesome Song imo...if anything a great transition song from ending dinner into opening up the dance floor maybe?

Dua Lupa - Levitating - I am positive students would dance to this song or at least like the song lol

At least there are proms in your area. The school districts in SW Florida is still not allowing school dances. Last spring I lost out on 2 proms and 3 middle school dances because of Covid.

Are you looking for non-explicit material or what they will likely/potentially be requesting?

These are christian schools so obviously non-explicit is important. I'm just not up on what the kids are listening to. For the past several years I've struggled to stay relevant for proms.

Tik tok... that is all you need to know. Find the anthems... know the 30 second part that’s popular... play only that part and that’s it. Quick mixing is a must. Other than that, whatever mainstream stuff that’s on the radio... which truthfully they don’t listen to much anyways.

Here is a "safe" song list but "safe" is subjective. Also includes popular songs that you should NEVER play for schools if there are any content concerns.

P.S. The list was sent with a brief intorduction as a primer into what they might expect from student requests. Unfortunately, for me, ceating the list was a futile marketing effort as the majotiry of schools are run by leftists administrators and they are choosing to punish the graduating & junior classes so they can virtue signal the alleged value of CORONA-PHOBIA behavior.

The few, 1/2 a dozen, inquiries I rec'd had budgets that were insufficient to insulting and prohibitively price dependant.

Another prom season sacrificed at the COVID altar.

My 4 to 5 regular prom/school clients are opting to do virtual/BS proms. These graduates are being unnecessarily denied their liberties.

So I was going to post this in the gig log, but i will just do it here since you asked. I had prom #1 this past saturday. got another one on May 8. It was only the senior class and their dates so about 300 people. They had to wear masks anytime they were not dancing. They were assigned tables of 8. Their initial plans was for me to call up about five tables at a time and to allow them to dance to 2 or 3 songs and then have them sit down and call the next set of tables up. I thought this was a horrible idea for many reasons. They would be missing out on certain songs, etc. Well this lasted about 3 songs and I told an administrator that if they wanted to keep doing it this way they would have to be responsible for calling the tables up. Well they then decided to just let them be.
Prom went from 7-10pm and the dancefloor was full the entire duration. I only had time to take one pic. I had 20 uplights around the gym, with 2 Wash FXs behind me and two intimidator spots sitting on the subs.. I had a pair of EV EKX15s along with 4 ETX18SPs They sounded amazing The bass was incredible and I could tell the kids loved it. Here is the play list as well.
I hardly played anything current. The kids love off the wall random stuff every once in a while too like the Hannah Montana theme song.

Well these have been the easiest proms ever. Last night was about 20 kids where their parents paid to have a separate prom, just for their kids. Tonight is the homeschool group and the sponsor’s daughter walked in with a playlist on her iPhone. They ended up with 100 kids and they’re having a great time. This is the first prom they’ve ever had. One more event tomorrow and I’ve completed my first triple weekend. Wish they were all this easy.

Glad things are working out. What I do is if I'm not sure I would be the right DJ for an event, I will pass the gig up so they can find someone that they feel will do a good job at the event. I do remember you saying you weren't looking to do such events because you're getting older and not sure what to play at such events. The thing I have noticed is that seldom the songs they listen to stay around for a long time. It's hot one month and 2 months later it's history. Keep up the great work as things are coming together very nicely at the venue.

As you're well aware sometimes you have to get a little for now to gain a lot later on down the road. The venue is still fairly new. So do what Eddie Kendricks said to do and that is keep on trucking.
