I've been thinking about purchasing one Chauvet Colorstrip followed by a second if I like it. I was digging through the old posts / threads and found good & bad things about the Colorstrip. Now that everyone has had a chance to use theirs for a while, I would be interested in some current feedback on these units. Any input would be appreciated!

The Chauvet Color Strip is almost identical in appearance and price to the American DJ Mega Pixel LED BAR.

But that's where the similarity ends.

I attended both the American DJ and The Chauvet Road Shows this Spring and summer and got a chance to really evaluate them.
I actually got two of the very first American DJ fixtures when they were released in May. So i put up a short video shot at an event I did, to show everyone how happy I am with the fixtures.

The American DJ version of the LED Light Bar has more DMX channels, hence more control and combination possibilities.

One big feature the Americn DJ version has is a dimmer channel. Probably the biggest gripe I heard about the Chauvet version was the inability to dim it.

So, in conclusion, my advice to you is to get The American DJ Mega Pixel LED Light Bar.

I've got two of them and they are fantastic!

Steve, thanks for your input! A couple questions for you...

If you are running them in the 7 channel mode and you select 'sound-active' mode on channel 5, will the dimmer on channel 7 still work?

Will the fixture remember the DMX setting you programmed from event to event?

Thanks ahead of time for your reply!

No. The dimmer only works in DMX mode.
Sound active is pre-programmed with different chases, which work well.

I use a Chauvet Model 50 A Controller for the Mega Pixel. A few chase programs using all the channels, including the dimmer, and you are all set.

The Chauvet Controller also has a Sound Active mode within it.

The big thing with the American DJ fixture is that because it has so many channels, you can really set up an elaborate chase sequence should you happen to get 4 or more of these fixtures.

The availability of the extra DMX channels opens a wide variety of possibilities with the American DJ fixture that simply doesn't exist with the Chauvet fixture.

As for the fixture remembering a setting...NO...the controller remembers the settings you program into it.

I will try to clarify...

You can actually access the sound-active mode while under DMX control, it's on channel 5.

I was wondering if the fixture remembered it's DMX address like when I set the DIP switches on my Acrobat. If I assign it to channel 27, it will always be on channel 27 unless I change the DIP switch settings.
