Cute, but not really accurate.

Compression does exactly what the name implies - it SQUEEZES the sound, meaning it also makes softer passages louder in relation to higher peaks.

Limiting is the thing that perhaps best resembles your mother (and I would argue it's your father who's more likely to be yelling at you.) A limiter is downward expansion which is entirely non-active unless or until you exceed the threshold.
