I got a FB friend add from Li Tang Lam, a rep. with Guangzhou Huayan Light Technology. I'm really tempted to pull the trigger on a couple of these units, just to try them out. Prices are really getting down on these things. I asked and she said these are 500-watt units.

Just be cautious with your local fire marshal and if they have restrictions in place for these. It’s not that they’ll check, but if they see something on social media, and they know about these effects, they’ll ask you for documentation, training to use them, a special fire extinguisher on site, etc. things the Chinese companies can’t really help or assist with.
Otherwise, the actual effect doesn’t appear much different. If I was in your shoes, I’d do it, assuming it won’t cause any headaches w fire marshalls. Here they’re aware of the effects and don’t really have any issues with them.

The FM is a non-issue here. They originally contact me to say they were going to start inspecting wedding venues out in the county but after I sent them the drawings they asked for they've not said anything else. I just placed an order for 2 of the up-shooting cold spark machines. $500 is a low risk and if they work I'll order 2 more. Thanks for the encouragement.

I got this same ad from the same friend like 20 seconds after I accepted her request
There are several of these chinese companies who have quite aggressive reps. If those machines will work even remotely well, I'll be thrilled. I've been talking up this effect with a number of prospects and their eyes just light up. Can't wait until I can fire them up during the sales meeting.

I'm thinking about sending her a message to change the quantity to 4 units. You wouldn't believe how many inquiries I'm still getting on 2020 dates...........

Okay, so the total with shipping and 10 packets is $1550. I'm wanting to use these at sales meetings. Is it possible to just load enough for 15-20 seconds? I'm assuming you mean to burn the entire load and don't leave any sitting in the machines, correct?
Sure you can use them for 15-20 seconds. You can also fill em up all the way too and just use them as you please. What I meant is the “clean” function that these units have which clears the shooting tube (not the reservoir) of any leftover granules. If you don’t do that, there’s a possibility they can harden and clog the units or burn from my understanding. It’s ok to keep the reservoir full, you don’t need to only load what you’re gonna shoot.

I pulled the trigger on 4 cold spark machines and a dry ice machine. Cold sparks are shipping today and ice on Monday. I had a private message from a forum member I didn't recognize, warning me about pyro devices. Sure do appreciate the info but man, I sure hope I'm not opening a can of problems. At the very least, the dry ice machine looks like it puts out a ton of output and these girls eyes are lighting up when they see dancing on the cloud. Neither of these effects are in use in the Birmingham, AL market.

Idk what they were telling you about pyro devices that wasn’t said publicly, but yes there are a few that think they’re gonna cause venues to blow up lol. However, these have been around for nearly 3yrs with no major issues. Just make sure you use them as directed and clean them (there’s a process) after each event. Oh and make sure you have lots of circuits for 4 units and dry ice. That’s 3 circuits right there

The info offered seemed to be well-informed and I sure don't want to get caught flat-footed with the Fire Marshall. Doing a little diligence never hurts anything. As for circuits, yea, I was already planning to run dedicated circuits for these machines. I think the dry ice machine may be a full 20-amp circuit, just by itself. The sparks should run 2 on a 15-amp circuit. I sure didn't need to spend the money right now (divorce) but have had some booking $$$ come in recently and this feature sure seems to be getting some traction with clients/prospects. Next up, I gotta get some good footage to start promoting it more. BTW, myDMX Go seems to be disconnecting after I put that bluetooth receiver in place. I'm going back to TN this weekend for a gig and to get the rest of my personal stufff, which includes a MyDMX 3.0 interface. I think next week I'm going to get started on setting that up to drive my venue lighting. I'm needing more control over scenes for spotlight entrances, which don't really fit myDMX Go very well.

I'm puzzled at how $1,500 in spark machines informs the $200 rentals you've been giving the place away at ?
"Shopping" is a known substitute for something you've already indicated you are experiencing. I think your long term success with the venue may lie along a less impulsive path.

Who's going to run all this stuff while you're filling the roles of photographer, DJ, caterer and venue manager ? Staffing is going to be the most reliable investment you could make right now. Your family will eventually tire of chasing a dream that is not their own.

I'm kinda stoked. The fog machine came in last week and the 4 cold spark units just arrived a few minutes ago. I have a school dance on Thursday and my 2nd wedding on Saturday. I also have myDMX 3.0 installed and have to figure out how to setup scenes. Lots of work to get done this week. Have to pull 3 circuits to power the new stuff and I'm just itching to fire off those sparklers.

Thanks Taso, that's exactly what I'm hoping I can make happen. On your nimbus, do you just put blocks of dry ice into the hopper? Mine looks like a nimbus knockoff. Heating element in the bottom with a square metal basket that holds the ice. You lock the lid down then drop the ice into the water. I was pretty surprised that the outlet is only 1.5"-2" in size. Mine came with a hose but not sure if it makes more sense to just shoot without the hose. Your thoughts?
