Had a call on the venue this morning from a groom-to-be. They're getting married in May, 2021 (yea, last minute). Gave him a price and talked over a few details. I interjected that "this comes with DJ and lighting." He didn't say anything about lighting but regarding DJ, "Oh good. That makes me lean more towards you since that'll save me $300-$500." I started to tell the real cost of DJs but decided to shut my mouth. He said they're Church of Christ folks so obviously a wild dance party isn't exactly on their list of priorities. Still, it's been a long time since I heard someone mention $300 in regards to DJ service.

It will be the year 2045, Happy Meals at McDonald's will cost $18, a trip to Five Guys for a single meal will cost $45, the cheapest cars will cost $50,000, A small house will cost over a Million dollars, and there will still be people out there believing that $300 to $500 is sufficient for booking a DJ.

Your assumption is his price to pay a DJ to do his wedding is $300-500. For you that is a cheap price to pay a DJ to do a wedding. You may be right but it doesn't matter. Your concern is about him booking your venue to have the wedding there. Maybe later on you can look to make an adjustment to the price. For now your focus should be about getting bookings for your venue. Once enough people know about your venue and like your venue including what you have to offer, then you can focus on possibly adjusting your prices.

Who ARE you and what have you done with Mix?

I don't think you should scoff at his fiscal projections. You told us your ideal customer for this venue was couples with modest budgets. This is what you have built and this is how you've positioned yourself. You are interviewing a DJ for hire at $200. You're going to have to embrace the model you've chosen if you want to succeed. You can't sell effectively if you're conveying an undertone of contempt for your own product and customers.
