Anyone use this or has used this? Is this basically the Intimidator 2.0 but with a barrel?

http://www.chauvetlighting.com/insignia-20.html

I haven't been able to find out much info about it. Let me know any thoughts or opinions.

Thanks!

I love mine!!! But..now with the LEDs that came out...I am shying away from all my 2.0's intimidators and insignias.

I used to use it in the middle of my truss as a centerpiece...however now for weddings I only use like 3 LED 64 Pros...and two dual gems for the floor and ceiling. Been working fine for me.

I considered using my Insignia for the street dance on friday...but I am just going to use my intimidators for this one.

Great effect....and works like a charm...

Reasons to hate it!!!

1) Bulbs break sometimes rather easily...prices can range per bulb from $7.95-$20.00 or so. NLFX really does have good deals there.

2). Heavy..now with LEDs they are doing the job for a 1/4 of the weight of the other lights.

3) High Power draw. As you know...some places have not been properly wired for lights, and the power draw from a bunch of these lights will either trip your conditioner..or their breaker.

Last year for the street dances I used 6 Intimidators/Insignias..and this year I went down to two only...and my power draw substantially went down. I am using more LEDs this year.

So there is upsides..but there are just as many downsides. It is a great centerpiece light for sure.

I have 2 - I like them...I picked them up for about 180 US (new) in 2007...They work well..They're not Acrobats...but then again they're about 1/3 the price...

+1

They've been a very solid, reliable fixture for us for light duty install and DJ applications. Unfortunately they are discontinued and stock is very limited. If you're interested in buying some, contact me or "The Bloggerator" (NLFX Specials) and we'll see if there are any left. They are on a nice, blowout price. :)

Thanks for the advice. I currently have 4 Intimidator 2.0 scanners, and was thinking of getting 2 of the Insignia 2.0 's for the ends of the truss for my larger light shows. How would this look? And I can link them to my Intimidators right?

They are all linkable, and that would be a good option. I use mine in sound-active mode. I don't use both at the same time all the time. If you linked them all together and used Chauvet's simple controller, they would ALL come on at the same time...I don't recommend that all the time. If you plan on programming DMX scenes, you may have better luck.

Thats exactly the lights I used for my trusses last year.

I used 4 par cans..and two intims..one insignia.

After doing several weddings, and not taking proper care of my lights...I started weeding out the lights.

Now for weddings, I have a basic setup.

If I am doing a booking which involves a large..younger crowd...I will be using them again.

So yes...this does work very, very well.

Thanks! I would plan on linking them all, but running sound active. Then I could put them on 2 separate power switches, so I can choose either all on, just Intimidators, or just Insignias.

Do you have any photos? Are they just dots?
Thanks!

Of course this is all on personal preference....but....

I personally dont like the idea of the power switch thing myself....this is why...

When you plug the lights in, you know it takes a while for them to come on, and sometimes...in this process the bulb gets burned out.

SOOOOOOOOOoooooo......I thought of doing the same thing, but I fear that..just my luck...the bulb would burn out when I turned it on....and Whammo..i am down one light.

Now....the linking issue. There is so many ways you can link the lights.....this is what I would do..and again..this is all personal preference at this point......

I would link the Intimidators in position #1 and #3 together...and also link the #2 and #4 together. Then I would let the insignias run independently since they are a nice effect. I would put two of the intimidators on a high sensitivity..and the other two I would slow down substantially. That way one basically covers the low end sound activation..and one goes with just about anything.

The insignias...I would put them both on a medium sound active setting. Not too wild..and not slow by any means.

AND....if you threw 4 led par cans in the mix....I would put two Leds on their lowest setting so it only hits with the beat......and I would put two leds on a higher setting which would just about bounce to any sound.

For my show tonight this is what I have..and this is how I set them.....this is all one on 10ft truss...I used to dj out of both of my 10ft windows..this year I put everything to one side.......heres what I am running for my street dance....

On the upper side of my truss I have 4 LED Pro 64's which I have basically pointed right in front of the trailer..which fills the direct floor. Two are set on Speed 04...and two are set on Speed 28. The 04's only hit with the bass, and the 28s bounce pretty quickly. In the middle of each side of the truss....I am running two Intimidators...unlinked...and one is set to a higher speed, and one is on about 1/2 of the setting or just a hair less. Again..basically hitting with the beat. Now along the bottom of the truss...I have a dual gem on each end of the truss, and a quad gem right in the middle of the truss...and I have two led Par 64 Pro...in between the quad and the gems. I have the quad gem pointed just above where the upper 64's reach to cover a wide area, and it is more appealing to the eyes looking to the trailer. I then have the two dual gems...pointed at about 45 degree angles to the sides of the dance floor helping fill space. BTW..the intimidators are pointed right on the dance floor, and not into the eyes of the guests just standing back. Then I have...the two other LED 64's pointed towards the trailer...and they are linked together. My business name is Party Revolution..so one is pointed at like the ART and one is pointed the OLU which highlights my name. The banner I got has a black background..and the lettering is white...so it really stands out. I have the speed settings on those Pros at 02..so they barely change colors...it looks great.

Looking at the trailer..it looks kinda crappy....but when you look at the dance floor, and you see all the effects..and how much of the dance floor is filled....it looks darn good. Of course....there are better lights out there..but this is by no means..a bad light show.

The reason I posted my truss setup..was only to say..that instead of turning your lights on and off....Just change the speed settings..and I would say..link the intimidators together. 1 and 3...2 and 4. This is what I did last year...and it looked just fine.

The next thing is....set up your trusses one night...and just play with the sensitivity levels until you are happy with the speed of the lights. It takes a little time..but it will make a huge eye appealing difference.

I've got video...but on video they look like dots. When you look from behind the booth...they look great. Just watch how high you position your lights so that you are not blinding the sitting crowd. Too many of times people like to make sure their lights are all over the venue...not considering that people sitting down relaxing..do not need a light show, and there is no point for your scanners to blind them as they enjoy themselves. To tell you the truth..I never had any complaints with my lights...but when I first had my lights...I noticed that people were blocking out the scanners with their hands every once in a while when it would shoot across their faces. Not that it happened all that often...but the little bit it did..helped me decide how to better address my lighting issues. LOL..another main reason I went to a more simple light show for weddings.

Stew, get a cheap DMX controller instead of switching them on and off they are designed to be on all night and once you switch them off and start them again they go through a cycle which means more wear and tear for them.

If you program them you can shut them off with the DMX controller which will black out the light while leaving them ready for the next step on the scene without going through the start up cycle. This goes for the Intimidator 2.0's as well.
