Professional "Craigslist DJ"
I've submitted 2 requests over the last year or so for CDX service via their website form, and never received a reply. I even shot Joe Kelly a direct email but didn't hear back. Do any mobile/wedding DJs here subscribe? Is the service not available to mobiles any more?

Just wondering if anyone can provide insight as to why I haven't heard back...

Thanks Steve. I did try iDJPool one month... however I like being able to rip a disc to lossless (FLAC) for my archives and then convert to MP3 for gig use, though. Currently a PrimeCuts Monthly member, looking at upgrading either to PC weekly or adding another sub. I've been getting into country gigs more lately.

Also... do we have any verification that iDJPool is legal? Don't get me wrong, David seems like a nice guy from my brief emails with him, and the site is good (I like the FTP feature). But while it's very, very clear that PrimeCuts and CDX definitely get approval for every single song from the label... it's just hard to tell if that's the case on iDJPool.

I'm not as sure there is definite approval for all content on PrimeCuts or CDX either .. other than they have a nicer website. That being said, I don't doubt they publish with the necessary approval, nor do I doubt Mr. Castro.

idjpool lists:
The services and resources on this site are made available under current and specific licenses and permissions granted by the original copyright holders and/or their consigns under usage and display definitions in accordance with United States Copyright Code, Title 17; §106(4,5) and §114(b) respectively, and for use in ASCAP, BMI and SESAC compliant venues within the United States and its territories alone.

CDX doesn't declare that on their website (at least I didn't find it) .. basically the same spiel as idjpool. Their benefit is a 24 yr archive of available music.

I think it was the post Jim Weisz made on this thread that I found when I was doing some Googling earlier that made me wonder:

MP3 Music Pools???

MP3 Music Pools???

He did .. and that was a BIG generalization. FTR, he said

That is because legit professional music services are not allowed to offer music from years ago, as you mentioned your service of choice does.

I talked to a DJ interested in our PrimeCuts service yesterday. He subscribes to one of these music pools. He has 5 DJs. He gets 1 subscription to the pool. He said that is all the pool makes him get. Any legit music service for professionals will tell you that you need 1 subscription for every DJ you have. We have companies who get over 100 subscriptions for all their DJs. Supposedly, those same companies could just buy 1 from these pools and be legal. I would imagine all the little guy single-op DJs wouldn't be too happy knowing a big company with a bunch of DJs pays the same amount for music as they do.

Kinda makes you wonder when the main music services for DJs (PrimeCuts, Promo Only, RPM, ERG) all have one set of rules and these pools have their own rules.

Idjpool requires a subscription per DJ. Idjpool offers older music that has been re-released recently. They don't have a back catalog.

Thanks for the clarification Steve, those are good points. (For the record--not trying to throw anyone under the bus, just trying to be legit.)

I was seriously contemplating the Country version of iDJPool, but unfortunately David indicated in a recent email that American Top 40 / Billboard Hot 100 are no longer included in that one. If you look, he removed all references to those charts from countrydjpool.com.

P.S. I'd still like anyone that knows anything about CDX to chime in...

He doesn't provide AT40/Hot 100 anymore in any of the packages .. just the Hot 100 pdf list ..The music is left in the Pop/AC/Urban/etc. category they come in. I do wish he kept those 2 separate, as it made it easier to pull new music quickly.

How is iDJPool's remix selection on mainstream/top 40 tracks? Any chance you could do a sample search and post what comes up? Something like Roses by Chainsmokers?

Back in the late 90's and early 2000s, when I was in radio, I did subscribe to CDX as I worked at a country music station. I think it was $50.00 a month and I got one CD a week.

It covered all I needed in that genre.

CDX is (or was originally) marketed to dance instructors and non-reporting radio stations. Cost was $80.00 per quarter at the time. They never raised their price.

I was a CDX subscriber for over a decade. Great service for years. If it was Country music, it was on CDX. Then they started missing some releases. Emailed Peggy Mobley (may she rest in peace), she told me that Warner and some other labels had discontinued their relationships with CDX, hence the missed releases. Peggy didn't give a reason and I didn't ask.

Our last year in the biz, we switched to Promo Only Country service instead. Promo didn't miss any new releases and the cost was significantly lower ~ two discs from CDX per month vs. one from Promo.

Some things about CDX I appreciated, they released dance tracks, duets that you didn't find anywhere else, the CDXmas discs (at no charge) and a lot of really good music that never seems to make radio airplay.

The website isn't much help unless you're already a subscriber and can log in. I believe you have to call them to get a subscription form mailed to you.

For our part, CDX became a waste of money. Compare services and decide for yourself what's best for your business.

Thanks for your input Fred!

I find Promo Only's POOL software clunky and annoying. Just let me download a zip file! (like Primecuts). Speaking of which, I'm probably just going to upgrade my PrimeCuts monthly to Weekly. They seem to have all of their programmed genres covered really well, including country. I also like the option of adding standard audio CDs to my service so I can rip a lossless archive file, too. I gig with MP3, but I'm all about future-proofing...

I ended up doing Primecuts Weekly. I also get the backup CDs shipped once a month ... Pre-paid for the year for a 10% discount and it comes out to $40.50/month. With PO you pay $40/month for POOL audio silver without the option for a disc. On the other hand, I know you can access your POOL downloads for life... to each his own!
