Came across a new gig log today.... a charismatic young man who is very excited for his gig...and i like that!! Once again it reminds me of a simpler time in my life..and mindset... fully respect it...

So once the introduction is over and we arrive at the gig (i fastforwarded ofcourse) we see that he and his 6 man crew have went all out....with thousands and thousands of dollars in lighting and sound equipment... very impressive! Theyve obviously put some time and money into creating a nice show.

This is about the time i get excited to hear them perform....because ... obviously anyone with this kind of lightshow isnt a novice dj...

So... the show begins...and we are treated with our first glimpse at "the skills" .... a caption pops up on the screen "WORST INTRO OF MY LIFE" lol....so ok...weve all had that intro where we forgot to stretch our legs first and come out of the gates a little sloppy....it happens... the intro wasnt that bad...tho hard to understand... the big issue was the lackluster response...which took the wind out of his sails and zapped his mock confidence displayed only seconds earlier as he hunkered down behind his set up counting down to the moment where...i dont know...i guess he popped up and hoped the kids would cheer....they no doubt didnt because even that didnt make it into the video... it made me think that...as bad as he thought the intro was...it must have been a highlight...because it made it into the video..... lol.... at any rate... he lost his confidence... he immediately lost eye contact with his crowd...his body language read that he wanted to crawl back down to his hunkered position and hide there a while....or maybe get a do over.....but he powered on and went into his music.... we then get a quick cut to his first transition..... an awkward backspin into a completely different bpm track... and at that point i knew .....i knew....lol

So the lions share of the rest of the video is shots of the light show over non copyrighted music... seems like the kids were dancing...and thats good... then we get treated to some sort of line dance where the kids are fully supporting it... and THEN IT HAPPENS.... a trend ive seen at so many of these type events with dj's of this age and experience

he and his 6 man crew who apparently put the lights on auto pilot.... are all hovered around the dj console....jumping and pointing their finger guns at random imaginary skeets around the room....each of them feeling like they are Skrillex and every girl in the crowd is only looking at them....OOOOOOH...I LOVE LIGHT GUY NUMBER 5!! HES DREAMY!!

meanwhile none of them are djs...including the dj...lol... but boy do they know how to graciously accept the moist adoration seeping from the crowd.... atleast in their imaginations... they are transformed to the main stage at Tommorrowland all the sudden as they perform a school dance

Moral of the story is.... always learn to move a crowd with the houselights up and nothing but a set of twinkle lights as ambiance and THEN...and only THEN...drop thousands on lights... learn the craft...and dont be a tool...

The gear used was niceand the lights were nice. I don't know about him keep announcing how sick he was. The video wasn't bad. For me the video should have showed more of the crowd having fun. Most people will look at the setup as being very nice but won't have a clue about the gear being used. The video should have shown the people at the event having a great time.

Lastly he called that facade simple. That's not simple to me. I have a 3 panel one that cost me $500 plus tax from Musically Yours. The simple one is made of wood with a black cloth over it.

Yeah, the kid was nervous and a bit off point, but so what? He got it done and he'll learn from experience. Your critiques are things that only another DJ or wanna be would care about. Oh, and "moist adoration seeping from the crowd "? That statement is the only "awkward backspin" I see here. I saw an industrious young man and a group of middle school kids having a great time and being age appropriate.

Relax. Don't get so crazy, Chris.

I think something needs to be pointed out about these last two “gig logs” that were posted of these kids. These were NEVER intended to be for the public, and as selling tools. In fact, they’re used for monetization purposes. You can tell by the way they talk, the way they label everything, and the fact that they use minimal live music to avoid copyright detectment. They’re pretty much trying to be YouTube famous and make money off people like us watching their videos. So yes, they wanna put the good the bad the ugly. There’s a few guys like this out there on YouTube which I’m sure many of you see on your recommended section of the site. Again, these are definitely not made for marketing or selling purposes to actual clients.
