I have a client who is using the venues string/Italian/marquee lights and most of the time they are halogen style so I always recommend using a dimmer, otherwise it puts too much light out, killing the mood for dancing.

Can I safely recommend the simple home depot dimmer that I always recommend on the halogen lights.

What would make it not dimmable? The dimmers just alter the voltage? Would it blow the lights?

Safely recommend something, maybe, unless you do it from a tightrope across the Grand Canyon or while lighting explosives.

Free from liability for making mucking about outside your actual expertise, HELL NO!

If you have a trustworthy and established professional relationship with the venue, you can inform them of your thoughts on improving their room's impact but to do anything outside that is highly NOT recommended.

You can and likely should alert your clients to your experiences with the venues but to recommend to a client or actually apply your "solution" independently/without any authority is rife with problems.

Thanks Ricky! Just doing some reading, it seems there is absolutely no harm in hooking up a dimmer. Nothing will cause it to blow...

It will either work or not based if the leds have a transformer.

Also, Just got off the phone with a local professional lightning company.
