Can someone tell me what this "dj" is doing?

... i DEFEND MY ARTFORM....and you should too...if it IS your artform?...

You’re not DEFENDING your “artform”; you’re disparaging HIS. Yet you do it in such a way as he has no opportunity to reply... It’s just like taking a CHEAP SHOT. If you knew anything about ART, you’d recognize that art is a personal expression. It is as unique as the artist. If EVERY artist did the EXACT same thing, it would cease to be art. While other DJ’s performances may not suit you, their art is still their art and every bit as valid as yours. The only difference I see between the subject DJ and you is; he hasn’t posted one of your videos and criticized you.

You can go to plenty of chat sites where people belittle and ridicule others. This forum has always been better than that... with a few exceptions we all know.[emoji4]

Everybody had to start somewhere. Nobody starts at the top. Lebron James started somewhere. He just didn't get into the discussion of possibly being the best pro basketball player of all times. He has worked very hard to get where he is at today. Sure he was gifted with great talent and skills. It does him no good if he didn't work at those things at all.

Everybody can't be a super star. Some have to be roll players.

Not everybody can be a super star DJ. A lot of people enter into this business thinking how easy it is to become a DJ. Especially when you see a DJ today using a controller, laptop, powered speakers, a DJ software program and music on a HD. Those who have been in this game for a number of years know better than that.

You sir are a fool if you believe i have anything else to offer...lol

Look, I get it. I've seen many so-called industry professionals out here doing the tap dance on the necks of these guys. Whether they do it for validation or sport, to me it's old news. There's no stone tablet that is law when it comes to entertainment.

Your hard work and dedication come through in your personal gig logs and postings. When we learn from who's doing things right, wrong takes a back seat.

Glad you're here.

If we took an arbitrary stance on posting only that which can be defended, we wouldn't be able to discuss music, vendors or any number of topics.

Maybe if we only posted facts.......like I do😁

Yes but LeBron didn't post videos of him not being at the top of his game. LeBron also takes criticism for what it's worth. In 1996 when he was 12 if Larry Bird or Michael Jordon gave him advice he would take it that's why he got to be the Lebron he is today

I have a serious question for everybody here and I will answer first. How long from when you first got started was it before you felt you were good enough to perform in front of people in public?

Myself I remember my first gig back. I was asked to do my God son's high school graduation party in the family's backyard. I thought I was going to do a great job. I practiced my butt off downstairs in my best friends basement. I just knew I was going to do a great job with people applauding me for the great job I did.

That never happened. On a scale from 1 to 10, I was a minus 10. I was so bad that I wanted to stop playing before it was over. My best friend made me keep going. That was the best thing he could have done for me. I finished the job even though I wanted to run.

My guess is it took 6 months to a year after that when I felt I was good enough perform in front of people in public.

My point is I thought because I had done this before in the past, I would get back to where I was in the past immediately. That's not how things went. So how long did it take you to feel comfortable enough to take your show on the road?

The comfort zone will vary among all of us, but for me I felt pretty comfortable after about the first year in business (1980) And felt almost totally comfortable after around 18 months and since then I have had no discomfort. I was always "good enough" to perform, just not where I wanted to be and not at the top of my abilities in the beginning.

It's confidence and experience that will eventually help create a real sense of ease at your events. Plus, by watching giglogs and reading forums I still continue to elevate my performance with every DJ occasion.

If you want you can go to the beginning of this thread and see the video. Personally I wouldn't post such a thing on here. What is the reason for this? If it's to educate a newbie on what to do and what not to do fine. Other than that I don't know who this DJ is and will probably never meet this DJ. Is there a way to get in contact with this DJ to invite them to join this forum ? If you can't then to me this is a total waste of making this thread. To the OP did you learn anything from that video that you didn't know before that video?
