There is about a minute segment of him "mixing" in the middle of the video... not sure why this was the event he decided to gig log because the majority of the video is just him sitting there saying "like" every other word...

anyways... the djing segment....cough... no clue what he's doing...and all the knob touching... lol... listen... those knobs have a reason to be touched...i get it... but never...i mean never when your essentially slamming in the track on the 5...or 7 or whatever hes slamming in do u need to tweek those knobs

... i realize hes attempting to scratch...but...no...just no

The "Slam Mix" has a place. Not everything needs to be feathered and smoothed out. But it looks over used from the way this is shot. Maybe he only did that 4ish times, and the rest was all blended in a normal fashion. It could just be how the actual vlog is being cut. But it looks like a trick he's leaning on too hard.

What is your obsession with these DJs? You keep showing us these DJs. What is the point? To be fair he did say that was his first gig log. Hopefully he learned that he needs more video of the crowd and not about him. If it was a video educating someone how to mix or something to that effect fine. What about the people who attended the event? Where are they in this video?

Surely this forum is about more than your daily idiocy... tho that does fill the time quite nicely... i post these DJ RELATED videos to spark discussion and create content in a forum filled with non stop posts about some infantile old man making dumb purchases and dumber decisions... please feel free to avoid any future posts that might chaff your tender little butt cheeks.

Totally agree... the phrasing is off on a few of the mixes from where I think it should be. And the knob touching he's doing is totally arbitrary.

It's hard to tell if he's doing it to look busy, or if he's just developed that habit of touching those knobs as part of a mix. Either way, it looks very unnecessary.

What is the point?

This is a DJ forum... to discuss DJing. That is the entire point, of all of this.

I'm always hesitant to be critical of a DJ that didn't ask for the critique or feedback themselves. It's really difficult to put yourself out there, particularly in a direct to camera sort of way. It's uncomfortable, you feel exposed, and putting that video on the internet opens you up to all sorts of trolling. But the topic is directly in line with the purpose of this entire forum.

While I am not a fan of the Macho Man Show, Adrian makes a point.

You can spin it how you like, but the majority of your posts here are nothing more than tongue-in-cheek shaming sessions. At least Adrian is a member and has an opportunity to defend what others may consider "dumb". It's no big secret or epiphany that a great number of practicing DJs out there do not fit the standards of others. So, there's no necessary reason for seeking it out and showcasing it.

If you truly believe that this sort of exploitation serves a useful purpose, then by all means continue and we'll ignore it as you suggest. However, I think that you likely have more to offer by sharing your own endeavors and inspiring by example.

Have to agree. If the subject DJ was a member of this forum and posted the video and asked for our opinions, I MIGHT offer some POSITIVE feedback, but he’s not, and he didn’t, so I won’t.[emoji3]

Harsh but honest criticism is frequently substantially more valuable than any amount of "attaboys" or softened critiques.

Don't smile at me and tell me something that will make you FEEL better, tell me the truth and inform me of what you THINK.

NOT if the criticism is NEVER received by the person to whom it’s directed. The subject DJ isn’t a member and isn’t gonna read anything you (or any of us) write, so your “criticism” is basically just making fun of a total stranger, which is sophomoric and creepy IMO.

Personally, I’m not such a great DJ that I feel qualified to criticize other DJ’s. Interestingly enough, I’ve NEVER seen any GREAT DJ’s criticizing other DJ’s on a DJ forum... offering tips; yes. Criticizing; no.[emoji4]

So what are we to get from this dumb ass thread you made? How not to be like that DJ? What did you get out of that video?

I've changed my opinion on this over the years. I used to think it was unfair to be critical of someone who isn't here but now I feel that if you put it on Youtube, Facebook, or whatever you are putting yourself out there to be shot at (or complimented). It isn't a closed circuit you're everywhere and you know that when you begin. Most of these videos aren't for helping others they are self promotion

I agree. While I try not to be critical of others work , it’s not like someone secretly recorded this guy and posted it. He posted it. He's trying to promote himself. I think his video shows He needs to learn a lot about staging and editing a video as he does about mixing.

I didn't see anything wrong with self promotion. You're looking to get more business coming your way hopefully. My issue is when someone posts this thinking this is funny. I would have no problem if someone posted things like this to educate those who don't know how things should be done so they can improve. This is not AMF.

I don’t disagree that posting anything on the Internet opens you up to whatever criticism anyone cares to throw at you... BUTT... if you wanna be a butt, at least do it on the platform where it was posted so the poster can read it. Copying the link and posting it in some forum unknown to the OP denies them the opportunity to rebutt![emoji1] Just because we’re on the Internet doesn’t mean we can’t behave with a little class.[emoji4]

i believe the level of your disgust with this djs actions coincides with your love and respect of the actual artform...

I dont waste my time in defense of a persons right to post on the internet without any discussion of their actions... i DEFEND MY ARTFORM....and you should too...if it IS your artform?

For those of you defending this particular dj...or any dj ive pointed out as a poser.... you truly have no horse in the game....because u are squeeking by on some "know just enough to get by" ideal of djing yourselves...

One day...if u ever actually spend YEARS honing the art of djing over just being a guy with a set up and a photobooth and whatever else you can buy to feel like a "real" dj.... you might watch a video like this and feel something real about it

for those who want to exact rules....or the notion of "class" on this forum about discussing and observing things you find on the internet... please remember that when you disparage and make seething remarks about politics...as you do.... because those poor people arent here to defend themselves...
