Hey guys,

I'm in the market for new powered subs! I'm running Bose 802III for my tops I am currently running mackie subs (Which Suck!) I was just wondering what ever one else is running I am leaning towards yorkville nx720s. Price is not a concern the war depart has approved $6000.00. Or maybe a pair of EV-X5A's and the subs. Just looking suggestions and what works for you! Not interested in dyna-cords so don't waste your time typing it.

Thanks Chris

Bose sells some passives for cheap. Too bad they dont build one with amp built in. The yorkville is much the same as the Mackie you dont like so much. I would look into EVs or RCF which Ben can get for you at NLFX or even check out the new FBT. Since you arent into the Dynacords these are my next best choices.

I heard the EV's next to the dyna-cords and I like the Ev's better and I rented a yorkville 720 and it kills the mackies.

The Ev zx5a's I think they sound better than the dyna-cords that is just my opinion.

Cap the ultimate home theatre sub? Will it hold up to the tour grade performances you are known to play host to?

On the high recommendation from a very knowledgeable friend, I'm going to try one (or two) of these:

http://www.sunfire.com/productdetail.asp?id=11
When I worked in the audio/video industry we carried Sunfire pre-amps, amps and subs. Really nice gear, but I'm not sure it would hold up to the rigors associated with mobile work. It really is meant for a home environment.

vpver thanks that was the point I was making in my reply. However the Bose wasnt initially meant for DJ use either. Cap will find a way to pull a needle out of the haystack as he is an ol innovator.

For the money you'll pay for the 10" Sunfire (I believe our cost was around $1500.00 CDN, retail was $1999.99 CDN), you could buy 2 - 15" name brand powered subs from most manufacturers. Not sure why someone would waste their time with the Sunfire when it's clearly not designed for mobile applications.

Now if I was building a new home theatre system, then I'd consider the Sunfire, but would most likely still buy a Paradigm Reference Seismic 12 Subwoofer for the same price as the Sunfire 10".

Won't know till I try it. I was on track.

Now, if you're using the the 802III (Panaray drivers) and not the 802II (Accoustimass drivers) and you're not afraid of weight, try the 502B using a Crown K2 and the 802C or EDSP controller. It is oustanding!!!! I just don't care to haul 90 lb speakers any more, willing to sacrifice some audiophile level quality for ease of transport.

Chris -

You like the sound and the SPL of the ZXa5s, why not pair them up with a pair of SBa760s? I have a pair of demo ZXa5 and a demo SBa760 I can part with very reasonably, or I can also make you a fantastic deal on new.

Clear,

If you are considering adding a "Sub"woofer, consider an 18 inch driver but nothing less than a 15.

I use to run 4 - 802II and a 502 powered by a pair of Bose 1800V amps. Sold it all except for a pair of 802's which should be gone in the next few days.

As music was being programmed more for loudness with everything being crammed in the 1K range, I found the Bose just weren't capable of producing the same sound as my Yorkville system.

I'm intrigued with the new QSC speakers and when things turn around, I might be headed that way.

Would I buy Bose again in the future?, probably not unless I had a direct need for a ceremony system or I started doing a lot of smaller rooms again. Everyone has their own favorites, and what works for one may not for everyone. To each his own.

I work part time for a concert sound and light guy, who has always used Mackies for smaller gigs. He just bought a couple of the new QSC's and they are very nice and sound great. IMHO they are much more professional looking than the Mackie's, and a bit heavier.
Don't know if HE is gonna change his MACKIE ways...
but his son (and business partner) LOVES the new QSC's.
