... I’m ALWAYS mulling over a different design...
There...I fixed it for ya....
Like I said, I’m mulling over a different design and I think I’ve pretty much decided that a Denon MC7000 is out of the picture. It’s simply too big. As much as I’d like a flashier controller with larger jog wheels, it’s just not practical for this application. If it was the ONLY thing sitting atop the podium, it might be a different story, but if I’m gonna sit the PreSonus mixer beside it, the controller needs to be narrower.
So where does that leave me? If an MC7000 is too large, so too is the Pioneer DDJ-T1 I’ve been testing with. And since I’m trying NOT to use any gear currently installed in my current Large and Small systems, that leaves me with only one option... my American Audio VMS 4.1. It’s a full 8 inches narrower than the DDJ-T1, which is pretty significant. I always loved the VMS 4.1, but it’s NOT at all flashy. However it is reliable, well built, and sounds just as good as the T1. I’ve considered buying a THIRD Denon MC6000MK2, because that would maintain consistency among all my systems, AND it would be about the same width as the VMS 4.1 (even narrower if you remove the two side pieces). I haven’t ruled another MC6000MK2 out, but it would be an extra expense I could avoid. There are features the VMS 4.1 lacks, but it does handle attached microphones better than the Denon MC6000MK2, and since I’m thinking of using a smaller dual wireless mic system in the Podium, the two mics connected to the controller became more important.
So... what else???... I still think the dual Nano computers are good, and they take up very little space. Same with the NAS. An Ultrawide Screen Monitor is still in the offing as well as a Shure dual wireless mic system.
I need to figure out what I’m gonna do for a DMX controller. Right now (in my Large System) I have a MyDMX 2.0. It works fine with the PC software it came with. I’d like to consider the MyDMX GO, but with the issues others are having, I’m a little leery. The price of a My DMX 3.0 is not much higher, but might be worth it if it provides the same reliability as my 2.0. I never experience the dropouts/lockups that some have described with the MyDMX GO.
I’m thinking that all of the peripherals (computers, NAS, mic system, DMX controller, etc.) can be mounted in a smaller podium stand (column) than the one I originally diagramed if I don’t try to transport my EVOX8’s inside. I think it would look more like a podium that way. Perhaps I can build or buy a cart that I can mount the speakers and podium on to transport them. I have a few concept diagrams I’ve been working on that I’ll post another day (when they’re fleshed out a little better).
Guess that’s about where I am on this. I flip-flop on this project pretty often... do I do it, or do I not?... Most of my flip-flopping is due to not having decided how much longer I’m gonna continue to DJ. The lack of activity is one reason for that, but I know that’s not likely to last much longer. I think I think too much.[emoji4]
