I think I brought these up in another thread, but finally pulled the trigger. I bought a pair of K&M round base stands with their ring-lock mechanism on top (I love that .. had them on sub poles in the past). A bit pricey (they sell for about $215 a piece). I bought them, plus bags for the poles and bases and another ring-lock adapter for my light stand, from Thomann in Germany. Shipping was high (like $115), but the total was lower than I could get here (just under $400) aand it took only 5 days to get here.

These take up much less room than my Ultimate tripods and look much cleaner IMO. Weight is limited to around 45 pounds, but I'll use these for my small JBL Eon One Compacts (battery powered) or my JBL PRX612m pair.

Can you explain the ring lock mechanism?

There's an expanding collet at the top of the pole. You place the speaker on the pole, turn the area below it, which expands 3 plastic fins and tightens up the grip on the speaker .. takes out any slack or wobble.

You sure that base is wide enough? Seems like with 40 lbs and a slight bump/push you've got an expensive speaker crashing into the floor.
Base is pretty heavy and it appears very stable. I wouldn't place them where people could "interact" with them though ..

Hmmm,

Something to seriously consider as I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE tripods, especially the alien (skirted) versions, to the point I'd rather lug my subs and use them regardless, than use tripods.

NVM, just saw the weight limit...44lbs.

I think mechanically it'll hold 100 pounds, but the base size limits the weight to minimize tipping. They have a larger square base, but don't make the Ring-lock mechanism available on those.

I picked up one of these Ring-lock adapters for my light tree (Gravity GLS331B) since the pole that did fit the the 4Bar well, doesn't fit tightly the t-bar I set up for the WashFX2 and the small movers. Hoping this will keep the slight tilt out that I had the last time I used them.

I bought a light stand with the flat square base.
It is also very heavy, and has a weight limit...
but my lighting rig isn't that heavy.

I would love to get those for my speakers (which are only 35 pounds)
because of all the smaller venues I play.

I bought this one a few years ago .. goes up to about 8 ft. I have a pair of Ultimate telelock light stands, which are nicer to elevate a heavy light bar, but this Gravity unit doesn't get in the way as much. K&M makes a similar one.

I like the Telelocks.
I was trying to figure out if I could somehow get that mechanism onto one of the baseplates. I have a pair of both the speaker height Telelocks as well as the lighting stand height. Just not enamored with the tripod part.

I prefer carrying lightweight USS tripods to weighted bases. The weighted bases are a much bigger work site safety hazard. I've only seen a tripod collapse once - but, I've seen many DJs or their assistants in sneakers drop truss plates and similar weighted bases on their toes, or get hands pinned underneath.

I recently had the base from an 80" TV stand nearly cut off my finger going back into it's road case - fortunately it's fully recovered after a couple months of enduring nerve damage and no feeling. I'm pretty adamant about safety and It took over 35 years - but eventually a weighted base finally caught hold of me.

I generally stopped using stands for a lot things quite some time ago, and prefer to rig and hang instead. Hanging stuff is just more secure than trying to prop it up on an upright and it eliminates all floor hazards.

Just saw that Chauvet is introducing a similar stand to the K&M and Gravity large base units called the FLEXstand for both audio and lighting use. Goes to 8' and "supposedly" holds 132 pounds.
