Bose S1 Pro Speaker came in

My S1 came in the day before I left for my cruise, Thursday, March 1. Thanks to Cap for the great service!
As luck would have it, a friend asked if I would fill in for a music trivia at a bar from 7 to 9. He uses a compact when he does it, and I use a compact when I fill in. I decided to give the S1 a try, but brought the compact just in case.

The S1 performed great. The smaller size and battery power gives it some good upgrades over the compact. Maybe not as powerful as the compact, but for what I use the compact for, I don’t really push the compact.

As long as you understand the limitations of this device, it can be a great tool. For me, using these for ceremonies, cocktails, retail events, basically everything I used a compact for. I can see us keeping a compact or 2 and moving more to the S1 for the small go to.

If you didn’t see the benefit of the compact before, or don’t care about the advantages that a light speaker can provide, this is probably not the speaker for you.

Oh, just an FYI, I didn’t get to use the battery on that first try. My battery is on back order. But I did use an iPad and the Bluetooth connection.
Bluetooth connection worked great. No one hacked into it:).
I had a 3.5 mm cord just in case, but didn’t need it.

We are doing retail events on March 25. At the store I’ll do, the best spot to set up doesn’t have an outlet, so I run an extension and tape it down. Assuming my battery is here, it’ll be nice to not need it. While it’s not a big deal, if given the choice, I’d rather not need to run the extension and tape it down.

More about the S1 Pro Battery Power Longevity. ...I used my S1 Pro in my basement last night with a blue tooth connection, and playing music for almost 3 hours. It still has 75% battery power left in it. I was not blasting the music but playing fairly loud.

My wife also likes how it sounds. She is impressed the amount of bass comes out of it for being such a small speaker. Bose did a lot of tuning on this speaker to get the sound to where it is.

Had my first gig with the battery inside. Went very well. And I used Bluetooth. It was a retail gig on Sunday. Got to love the 1 minute set up and tear down.
The one thing I don't like is the battery meter. Getting a blinking light telling me I have between 50-75% is a pretty big range. Maybe it won't be a big deal, but on my lights, I won't charge them if I have 75%, but will at 50. I think they could have done better here. But over all, good unit.

I used it as a third speaker at a Engagement party gig I did a couple of weeks ago. It was a gig for Gypsies...Anyway, I won't go into too much detail about the gig, but say that they kept on telling me to turn my sound system up. I was cranking 2 speakers, and hitting my signal limiter pretty good. Honestly, it was too loud in the room imo, but the client and guests kept telling me they want louder. So I got the Bose S1 Pro out of my car. That third speaker helped with volume. I don't think I ever played so loud for 120 guests in my life.

Bose connect app now supports the S1 pro. So now you can link 2 together in Bluetooth, mono or stereo. Also get battery info for the devices.... The 2 things that needed fixing imo are fixed

I can absolutely see the need for battery powered speakers. As battery technology gets better and cheaper and speakers get smaller, I’ll believe we’ll see an increase in popularity.

Yes, I COULD get electricity to most remote areas. But most tools I buy are to help me accomplish tasks quicker/easier. I believe this tool will do that. Cutting out setup and tear down time is always beneficial. My battery powered lights make my life easier. Why wouldn’t battery powered speakers?

It’s not uncommon for us to have a set up for the ceremony, one for cocktail, and one for reception. This will really help in these situations.

I expect to get years of service from this and it should still have substantial value after years of use Bose Karaoke. I just sold one of the compacts as I purchased the s1. $150 less than I bought it for..9 yrs of service. That’s value to me.
Hi, I'm into both, DJing and Karaoke anywhere from small rooms (500 sq. ft.) and large hall venues. I've been Djing with a Numark MixDeck Quad, a pair of passive Yorkville YS115 15" speakers in stereo and a passive SP Subcompact 18" Peavey sub. Powering the speakers and sub with a couple Mackie M1400i FR series amps. I'm looking to upgrade my speakers to powered (active) ones. Like everything else, I'm trying to figure out what's currently the best affordable quality speakers out there at a decent price point. I would like some kind of a crossover built in for added protection, although in my DJ setup above, I haven't had any problems without one.... yet. I've been looking at the JBL EON6's and EV ZLX's in 12" & 15" and now there is a new EV ZLH with BT. Of course, I just had to come across the Bose F1 812's which looked interesting enough to check out. Quality, clean, hiss free at "all" volume levels, warm but, crisp sound for both Djing and vocals/singing is all I'm looking for...... LOL Seriously, I would like the aforementioned due them working out anywhere from very small rooms to your large hall venues. I would sincerely appreciate any input and/or experience that you may have, good or bad in regards to the above. In addition, if you have any other suggestions "please" feel free, I'm open. Thanks, Ray

I’m probably not the best to offer knowledge about some of the speakers you mentioned. I’ve been pretty much using Bose L1/s1 stuff for years now. Never tried the F1’s. Too big and bulky for my liking.

as far as battery powered speakers, there’s now several options in the battery powered realm. Ev, Bose, JBL
