Blown DB Tech ES1203??

Sounds like an issue with what I believe they call a "former" (tube connected to back of cone with magnets attached to it) sliding over one of the poles .. something got knocked out of alignment.

knocked? As In moving it around, caused this?
Those pieces move like a piston, so everything has to be perfectly concentric. When something gets loose (most of the magnet and winding pieces are glued on) you get a noise like that since you get rubbing along one or multiple parts of the wall. Sometimes heat melts the glue, sometimes friction just knocks something off. Should be covered by warranty I hope.

we will see. I can't say I have experienced this from any speaker, active or passive. After owning these from one year, I can say they are nowhere close to the build quality of the Bose products. The outside finish chips super easy...

We will see what kind of company they are when I contact them and if they stand behind their product.

Well, I will probably never buy a RCF/DB product again. Dealing with a warranty is quite the task.

1. Contact Dealer, Dealer can't help after purchasing...
2. Contact DB Tech USA Distributor--AMS
3. After 4 phone calls, 3 emails, I finally got a hold of someone by accident. The only problem is they tell me that they have lost staff, and the DB Tech "guy" no longer works there.
4. They then tell me I have to get the woofer ordered through a service center, not a dealer-- There is only ONE in the entire city of Los Angeles.
5. I then call the service repair shop and they said it's an 8 week lead time, and they won't replace the woofer. They need the entire speaker for warranty and propper testing.

I am now out a speaker for 8 weeks.

I miss my BOSE L1 :(

RCF has been pretty good to me. I let another DJ borrow my EVOX 8 and they lost the wedge piece inside the sub pole. I contacted RCF and they sent me 1 in a couple days no charge.

that's a little different. I also lost the DP pole screws and they sent that to me, free of charge. although it took a few calls.

Dealing with a blown woofer is different.

True .. with a woofer, they'd have to deduce whether "it" blew or you blew it. Much more involved and probably the reason they need the whole unit.

I don't think that is the case. They want to make sure the amp is okay (that' what they told me). Not sure how I would be the cause considering it is active, nor could you prove that.

That's what they say .. :)

This is why I buy cheaper speakers manufactured in large volumes. If there is a problem - Yamaha 7 year warranty. QSC - Rarely blows up. . JBL usually pretty good.

Alto. Easily own multiple speakers. Only ever blew a tweeter on a TS2 model. Replaced it myself after spending $34 on the part. If somehow the backups blow...a trip to Guitar Center, and $300 or so later I have a new speaker for the next event

Bose S1 Pro - Best made ceremony battery powered speaker on the planet. I bet that speaker lasts 15 years no problems...

The higher priced stuff are cheaper made, over priced "eye candy" so to speak.

It's like comparing a quality built Toyota or Honda to a over priced Ferrari or Lamborghini. Those cars break down all the time, and the repairs are real expensive, and time consuming. Where as Toyotas and Hondas run forever with basic maintenance, and very rarely a break down :)

not quite.. My Bose L1 was the same price, just better built. I don't agree with your assessment, and you analogy with cars is way off. A Ferrari might break more b/c it is much more complicated and high strung compared to a Honda.

You cannot really compare the average MI speaker like QSC, JBL, etc. (all of which I have owned btw) to an advanced system like the DB. It's not apple to apple other than they both make noise. Alto, lol. Seriously?

BOSE FTW win it comes to customer service and support--That was my point.

In the video, I noticed the woofer had a sticker on the magnet. If there are numbers on it, have you tried a Google Search with them?

I would sell it, and get the Bose again. Breakdown on any speaker above $1,500 price point in the first 5 years/500 events is not acceptable. How advanced, or complicated the tech is is irrelevant, and none of my concern. I demand the speakers work all the time without failure if I am spending a lot of money on them.

I may expect this from Harbinger or Mackie, or Alto. Not a "premium" brand.

How advanced or complicated something is, is totally relevant. It being none of your concern is the real issue.

There is an extreme difference between an F150 'fleet' truck and an F150 Platinum - and the difference is all of the additional advanced and complicated systems - which may or may not affect how that vehicle performs and/or breaks down. People are not buying a Ferrari for a basic car - they want those extra features, more power and more performance - and the advanced and complicated tech is exactly why that car can perform the way it does. The same with Bentley's - people are buying them for the advanced and complicated tech that's built into them. Maserati, same thing. Ford GT, same thing. What do they have in common you ask? Underneath all that advanced tech and complicated systems .. is a basic car.

I demand the speakers work all the time without failure if I am spending a lot of money on them.
I believe we all do

I may expect this from Harbinger or Mackie, or Alto. Not a "premium" brand.
Again, because premium brands often have more features and are dialed in for better performance, this makes perfect sense.

I've never owned a Bose product, so I have no personal experience with their warranty support. I do know L1's break - a musician here in southwest Florida (who I follow) has had problems with his, multiple times. He frequently plays outdoors with high humidity, which I'm sure doesn't help.

Most loudspeaker manufacturer's do not make their own drivers. They might have them built to a specific spec - but they are usually actually made for them, not by them. Point being, the stuff inside many boxes is the same - not all - but a lot. It's the reason I asked about the sticker on jaswrx's broken woofer. I believe the ES1203 is built in Italy, and IMHO there is therefore a very high probability the woofer is made by FaitalPro, B&C, 18Sound, Lavoce, etc. - all very competent Italian raw driver manufacturer's.

Out of four woofers, one of his failed. The voice coil may have overheated, the magnet structure may have shifted, a manufacturing flaw, or sometimes, stuff just happens. I seriously doubt it's an amplifier problem, since both woofers in the same cabinet are probably driven by the same amp. If not, it's a very unusual configuration. This point being - it's premature to run the red flag up the pole. Me? I'd try to figure out who made it, buy a replacement ($100 ??)* and fix it quickly, avoiding all the shipping/warrenty BS - but that's me.

*Should be close for a 12" pressed steel frame ceramic magnet driver.

The driver is made in Italy by them, and being shipped overseas. It will take 3 weeks to get here.

$53 for the driver, but it is under warranty.

So found out if I ever want to buy the extra woofer or any part for that reason, I have to have it ordered by a dealer first (shipped there) and then shipped to me.
