I'm a lyrics guy I love great songwriting. What are your favourite lines of all time. Here's some of mine

Show a little faith, there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright -Thunder Road

"I woke up this morning and I took a look around at all that I got
These days I've been lookin' in the mirror and wondering if that's me lookin' back or not
I'm still the apple of my mama's eye
I'm my daddy's worst fears realized
Here of late all this real estate don't seem all that real to me sometimes -The Other Kind

Took my harpoon out of my dirty red bandana
And was blowin' sad while Bobby sang the blues, - Me And Bobby Mcgee

"Well you wore out your welcome with random precision
Rode on the steel breeze
Come on you raver, you seer of visions
Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine" - Shine on You Crazy Diamond, Pink Floyd

Ironic I played that today as filler on the request show at work :)

"If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice"

"We got no class, we got no principles, we can't even think of a word that rhymes"

"Nothing to kill or die for. Above us, only sky"

One night we were playing gin by a cracklin' fire and I decided to make my play. I said, "Babe with my boyish and charm and good looks, how can you stand it for one more day?"
She said, "Maybe it's the skeevy look in your eyes, or that your mind has turned to apple sauce or the dreary architecture of your soul."
I said, "But what is it exactly that turns you off?"

Steely Dan - Cousin Dupree

A little old lady got mutilated late last night... werewolves of London, again.
Warren Zevon - Werewolves of London

Right now, I think I'm gonna plan a new trend
Because the line on the graph's getting low and we can't have that
And you think you're immune, but I can sell you anything
Anything from a thin safety pin to a pork pie hat
'Cause I've got the trash
And you got the cash
So baby we should get along fine
Why don't you give me all your money
'Cause I know you think I'm funny, yeah
Can't you hear me laughing
Can't you see me smile

Joe Jackson - I'm The Man

We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgment of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song

The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again

Other than Joe Jackson, the other bands are all favorites as well ... The Who, The Clash, Steely Dan, Warren Zevon, and Buffalo Springfield.

She loves you! Yeah, yeah, yeah.
She loves you! Yeah, yeah, yeah.
She loves you! Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeahhhhhhhh.
The early Beatles' lyrics are almost as bad as current day rap ...

I love an interview with Paul McCartney. They asked him,"When you wrote, When I'm 64' did you choose 64 because that's how old your dad was and you were seeing him getting older?

He said, "No, a lot of words rhyme with 4"

I'll add a couple lyrics from hip hop in here that I've always found clever.

"I don't work for free, I am barely giving a f___ away" - Run the Jewels/DJ Shadow

"If skills sold, truth be told, I'd probably be lyrically, Talib Kweli
Truthfully, I wanna rhyme like Common Sense
But I did 5 mil' -- I ain't been rhyming like Common since." - Jay Z

Röyksopp-Monument

''So when the moment comes, i can say i did it all with love.''

I recommend joyner lucas incredible musical artist very lyrical. ADHD is a great album with many great songs. He also does more melodic rap some songs of which are called i love and ADHD. It's nice to see a good new generation rapper as nowadays ( IMHO ) rap is ten times worse with artists like Migos, Nle Chopper, YNW melly, Gunna and the lil gang lil pump, lil uzi vert, lil baby ect. On the subject of rap and good lyrics i think the king of lyrical rap is Eminem no shock really. Debatably the best rapper of all time and some of his songs lyrics are INSANE. One of his most heartbreaking songs mockingbird is very lyrical and i recommend that song to. I've written the word lyrical and lyrics a fare few times lol 😅

One is philosophical, the other is just brilliant.

"This is the mystery of the quotient,
Upon us all, a little rain must fall"
(Led Zeppelin - Rain Song)

"Two men say they're Jesus...
ONE of them must be wrong"
(Dire Straits - Industrial Disease)
