Besides a packed dance floor what makes the job fun to you?

Tig...
I feel ya, brother.
But I think guys like you and I
deal with a much different crowd than Chris and Taso do.
Not only different AGE groups, but people from different areas of the country...
with a different mind-set..
I only know the kind of people I deal with.
I seem to get booked to play mostly for older audiences...
but even the younger crowd around here is NOT looking for the fast mix club scene.
When I play a current song....people are singing along, because they know every word.
To only play one verse or one chorus of a popular song, just doesn't cut it around here!

really? this is still a discussion? On HOW to do things, how to play songs, when we all know that we are all from different areas, different crowds, we all have different styles and my style that works for me makes it no less positive than anybody else style?

Why are some of you trying to convince others that your way is the right way, when it's not. It's also not the wrong way, it's just your way.

Now, here is a picture of my wife with one of her swords, which is why I don't argue with her, don't make me bring this sword to the next convention. :)

That sword doesn’t look very sharp.[emoji1] Might give somebody a good bump on the head, but would have a really hard time cutting their head off.[emoji1]

Actually it is, very and it worries the crap out of me when she uses it. I tell her if it falls, don't catch it, just let it hit the floor. So far, it hasn't fallen. Only rookies use dull swords and Serato. :)

Reactions: Chuck The DJ
They did not think it was good for dancing, and they themselves actually got a bit irritated by it. The DJ did play a request of their, but only played about 45 seconds of it or so before going into another song. They couldn't even enjoy their request.

...They wanted to make sure that I did not DJ like that. They wanted the radio originals of songs...not remixes, and they wanted to make sure I played most of, if not the full songs.

Most of the time when you hear people say that mixing or remixes isn't good for dancing, it's because they heard someone doing it badly. If I play September by Earth Wind and Fire... and play a crazy electro version of it at a wedding, people will look at me like I have 3 heads. It's the wrong version at the wrong time. Or if you are playing more of an anthem song - it might make sense to really let it ride.

Part of the job is reading the room. Some rooms respond better to a faster paced set, and others get visibly frustrated at song changes. For a DJ to blindly power through in either direction is short sighted and shows a lack of finesse and poor awareness.

It's rare that I ever get past a second chorus in a club/bar/lounge setting - but at private events it can very quite a bit. "Always" and "Never" are silly words in this business.
