I Have an HP Envy with Intel Core I7 and it has Beats Audio. Any Ideas how to set the sound on the computer to sound good? I have it plugged in t o my mixer with a rca to mini plug coming out of the headphone jack. The mixer has an EQ that i can set as well as the internal beats audio eq in the computer. HOW DO I SET IT?

Beats audio is designed for the built-in speakers. You can certainly use it to output to a mixer, but it WILL NOT be as good as a USB soundcard output. If I HAD to use it, I would set it as flat as possible and adjust on the mixer.

The built in speakers are not really loud enough for any kind of listening. You sure that is all beats audio is for? What good is having a beats audio computer if it is not for using out of the headphone jack?

The Beats DSP is designed to optimize the built-in speakers .. otherwise, its just a basic analog signal through the headphone jack .. and most headphone outputs are nowhere near as clean as a USB soundcard.

how come sounds changes through the headphone jack depending on how I set the beats eq

I'm sure it will affect the output .. just not optimized for it.

Are you talking about good sound for personal listening, or professional use? If you plug a pair of headphones into the RCA jack... you should get the "benefit" of the Beats tuning on the computer. But as Steve mentioned, I wouldn't use that for professional purposes.

Not even sure you'd get a "benefit" from the Beats component through the headphone jack, though there may be some with specific output devices.

The HP Beats setup is comprised of 2 things .. the specific layout and components of the built-in speaker system .. and a corresponding DSP to maximize the potential of those .. so they really are focused on the internal sound. Once you plug something into the headphone jack, you're using the DSP controls of the audio chip set .. which were optimized for the speakers. They probably work like most audio output devices and probably have more granular controls built-in, but it's still not an optimal way to use a laptop for DJing ... the main reason is there is no secondary output to cue music.

With a USB soundcard (and there are lots of options there), you can run the main outputs through a typically better grade of D/A converters and use the headphone jack to monitor the cue bus. OR, you can get a 4 channel USB soundcard and run decks 1 and 2 to separate channels on the mixer and have even greater control.

So I might use the headphone output for simple background music playing (and I have), but would always use a USB device for any real DJ work to get the best sound.
