I don't have these speakers but, I did plan on listening to the K12.2's for purchasing. I just came across this firmware update Here for the K10.2 It's also recommended for the K8 & K12 owner's to do the update as well. This update is for distortion found at high levels. It states that if a failure occurs the amplifier will power off voltage to both drivers.
This update is quite new, on the YouTube channel it shows January 7, 2020. This, plus it only appears that you can only upload the firmware with a Windows PC. Well...... How about all of those that only have Mac's?
While I have you here: Has any of you K12.2 owner's experienced distortion?

I'm assuming this is only for the .2 series?

As far as I know......... I caled QSC this past hour twice in which communication was poor due to language barrier. One person stated that it's only Windows and the other stated that they don't do firmware updates with Mac due to being to hard for them to figure it out. I.M.O., that's pretty lame.

It might be lame .. but it is understandable. If you don't know Mac and how it works, then it's kind of impossible to write anything that works on it. Using a Mac is much different than writing a program that uses the OS to talk to a device. This same issue exists for people that write stuff for Mac and not Windows.

I totally agree with you......... Sad in today's world. A major company should be prepared and have Coder's/ Computer Programmer's for both of these platforms.

That costs money .. and they're not cheap. If this was a software company, I'd agree .. but it's not - heck, even software companies don't have programmer's for both OS'.

Again I agree with you but I.M.O., that's the price of being in business. Thank you for your thoughts. 😊

Also agreed - but it's kinda hard to be in business with no employee's then .. especially when you're not a software company. Could you imagine paying up to 3 times the current price for the exact same product - all because they might need more programmers for a potential update?

FWIW: For the companies that do write software for MS, Mac (or both and others), it quite often needs to be installed, is unsecured and asks for Admin level access - which is also highly incorrect. If they can't even get that right (using programmers), I'd hate to see what a version for each would look like.

Look no further than the ADJ MyDmxGo for another fine example of this same type of software coding and writing - although they actually attempted to make it work with MS and Mac.

At my last job (Dept of Safety), we had an app on iOS that we supported. Their dev platform was setup so that you pretty much had to issue an update at least once per year. They also had 2 different dev certificates (licenses) and if either one of them expired, the app went dead. We had self-service, driver's license kiosks across the state that went dead and we had huge egg on our faces because of it. In addition, it seemed the programming language and libraries were constantly being updated and old versions being done away with. I don't blame anybody for avoiding the apple dev platform.

I'm going to let this rest. There's nothing wrong with us having different opinions on this matter. All I wanted to do was to pass on this update along with what anyone's thoughts are on the K12.2 since I'm looking to purchase a couple speakers. Thank you, Ray 😊

I don't blame anyone for avoiding anything, especially if it's not in your wheelhouse. That said, there should be options for multiple platforms and there should be experienced knowledgeable people that are properly writing those apps - and there's a price for that. Sadly, there aren't enough of these people in all the places they need to be to make it work .. much less the cost for all of it.

Agreed. I'm capable of updating either way. :) Adapt and overcome.

As you've seen, I ran K12's for years - no complaints.

Updating the firmware is important for connectivity an interoperability anyway - so that any enabled devices can work and play well with each other where designed to do so.

That being said; you'd have to be kicking the crap out of your QSC K.x's before you experienced this issue in any meaningful way..
