Been interested in doing something a little more "fun" and a little less "work" here lately. A friend has given me the bug for a boat. Picked up an old Bayliner Capri 18' this past weekend. It's an old boat but in surprisingly good condition. Have a few minor mechanical things, tires to replace and interior cushions to replace. $3k spent and hoping I don't regret it.

Nice boat. Money pit! Don't you have a venue to run? LOL I have many friends that have boats & my daughter & son-in-law have two boats. No need to buy one.
Lake is less than 40 mins away.
Hope you have the time .

Two best days in a boat owners life, the day he buys it and the day he sells it
I heard one that too. The two best way to a boating 1) have a friend with a boat, let him deal with all the crap. 2) get an inflatable, I was at a boat show they tried to sell me. I have a really small one, took it camping I saw a dead fish, its been in my shed ever since.

Enjoy it! Take it out as much as possible. My Dad sunk $11,500 into a Yamaha Speed Boat. Thing was NICE! He then had his heart attack after ONE TRIP out in Indian River inlet with it. ONE SINGLE TRIP. Then it was never used again. Also, he did something to the motor on that one trip Not sure what, but it wasn't running correctly and he knew ZERO about boat maintenance. He ended up pretty much giving it away for only $4,000. What a waste of money

He had a 1989 model Volvo 21' boat before he bought the Yamaha. He took that one out like 8 or 9 times. The cost of a low price boat marina spot in the area went way up the summer after he had it. First summer was like $850 for the season. 2nd summer they wanted $1,500 so he said forget it, and he boated a whole lot less having to drive it and put it in the boat slip. He was getting old and it was a lot of work to do all that.

BUT he still sold it off and I think he got like $2,800 for it which wasn't terrible considering he spent $4400 on it, then turned around and bought the Yamaha speed boat because I believe it was a total impulse buy. I never got to ride in the speed boat, but went out with my parents once in the Volvo boat.

Unless I win millions in the lottery, I don't see myself ever buying one. Up here you have to winterize the boats every year too. Not sure if you do that that far down south...probably not. Just a lot of work and money to keep and maintain a boat

Fellas, I already know that boats are a money pit. I've had a couple in the past but it's been a long time. I got it for a couple of reasons. First, I have a son and a 3 year old grand-daughter who could use some fun on the lake. Second, women almost never say "No" to a boating invitation. Especially young ones. ;)

Good luck with the young ones.
I have seen your photos of yourself.
LOL
