I registered myself and my son two weeks ago. Also registered my older brother as he says he will try to go this year too.

Are you planning to go to the DJ Expo in Atlantic City this year? I haven't been since pre pandemic now, and kinda have the itch to go this year. It is the week after my family vacation, so the only real issue is having time off from work that week. I only have 10 hours of PTO right now, which is enough for one shift off at work. However, I work night shifts, and feel the trip up is going to require taking two nights off. Either that, or I take one night off and drive up with no sleep after working all night, get a hotel room zonk out in the hotel room after the expo, and drive back the next morning. I will have to figure that one out!

What are the dates for the show Ricky?

It's august 5-8th

I'll actually be around this year... so there's a 25% chance I'll go. For me it's more of a spontaneous decision, and just for the exhibits/demo rooms and to mingle. I always get a free exhibit pass at the least when they go on sale just in case, and because I get free rooms at a couple of the casinos, including hard rock it's really not much of a hassle or planned out as others have it. It's just a matter of what my workload is looking like and if I'm up for the 2hr drive. So yea... we'll see.

I will be there again this year, I’ve made it to each Expo since the first one. Usually I meetup with others who have been coming since the beginning too. Last year I won the Pioneer Digital Turntable and my friend won the grand prize so it was a pretty good year. Previous years I won a Photo Booth and Headphone case. A lot has changed at show, you will see families now plus kids who DJ. There a program now for DJs starting out and I just got a email about a wedding lounge for wedding DJs to network & take a break. I can’t say how the evenings parties are as I am not out late anymore. But there is a complete lack of any recording artists. That was to me was one of the high points of the Expo. When Promo Only left that was the end of the artists showcases. Personally I like the DJ show up in Boston better, it’s smaller for better networking & they have the speaker shootouts. Left year there was also lunch & a night with an open bar & appetizers, never seen that before at a DJ. So I have my tickets for both shows. January it will either CES or NAMM a little bit later as I have been meaning to get back to LA.

I have never been a Regular of multiple shows. I don't have the time or money to dedicate for that, and likely never will. The only show I have ever gone to is the DJ Expo in Atlantic City. They have it at a good time in the year too. Summer time, and for most people the DJ business is slow in August, at least those first 3 weeks are usually very slow with events so they picked a great time to have the show. Previous years I have been on vacation the same week which is the main reason I have not been going to the show. 2020 was the Pandemic. I didn't go the year they moved it to the convention center because I was dissapointed in the show and AC in general the prior year. We went in 2019, that was the last time I attended, the first year the show was at Harrah's.

If I don't make it down this year, honestly I probably won't make it down next year or perhaps any year moving forward. As time has marched on, I have less interest in DJ equipment, the business itself etc. Still currently have enough interest to make a trip to the show this year though. I also would like to walk the boardwalk and see what has gotten worse since 2019. Perhaps get some boardwalk Pizza.

If I remember correctly, more of the shops on the boardwalk are back open now. But it still looks like Atlantic City & that’s not a good thing. It kind of reminds me of Times Square. I prefer Virginia Beach over AC, there is a much nice clientele, stores & food Next time I’m down there I’m going to rental a bike to cover more ground. There are concerts and movies on the beach but our timing is always off so we miss them.
The expos aren't for everyone but ability to network & meet so many people/contracts can not be underestimated. Many major changes in my business were directly related to a contacts met or information I picked up at a show or conference.

I have not been to a DJ Expo in years. I'm surprised that they are still doing them when you consider that every new gear can be showcased on YT and bought from a website. Knowledge can easily be acquired via the internet or AI.

If you have the time, desire, and money, then go and enjoy! Have fun!

Well, I am planning on heading down on Thursday at the moment. My plan is to make sure I get plenty of sleep on Wednesday, work all night Wednesday then head down on Thursday morning. Take Thursday night off of work so I can enjoy the day in AC. HOWEVER, There is a Tropical Storm that is projected to hit Florida over night tonight, and slowly work it's way into South Carolina over the next few days. Then they have no idea what it will do. BUT, they are guessing at the moment it will hover over Georgia and South Carolina for a couple days before slowly moving north on Wednesday afternoon along the coast line. It is expected to dump like 12" to 24" of rain over that area, and serious flooding is going to occur. Looks like we could get potentially up to a foot of rain in Maryland (That seems excessive). They are guessing that Maryland/Delaware/Jersey COULD be dealing with a lot of rainfall on Thursday and into Friday. If that is the case, I am not going to bother heading down this year and miss the DJ Expo once again.

In Closing, It just depends on how good the weather is going to be on Thursday for me attending the DJ Expo.

Anybody planning on heading down at this point? Monday and Tuesday should be good weather days there.

Just remember Thursday is the short day so get there early. I think the drawing at the end is at 3pm I’m always there at the end, last year my friend wow the big prize. Over the years I’ve walked away with a Photo Booth, digital Turntable & some smaller stuff. Likely about 4k worth of stuff. I’ll be there M-Thurs just hanging out & networking no specific goals as I already upgraded most of my equipment except my controller. Then after the expo I head down to MD for a few days with some shopping in DE along the way. Pretty much it’s been a good year, working less, making more & traveling more & trying to get in shape to enjoy a slower pace.

If I actually make the drive up there, then maybe I will see you! It's not looking good with this weather. I just got back from a trip to Tennessee so I'm not looking forward to more long distance driving, but I do want to attend the expo since I have not been there in so long. I don't want to be there enough to deal with driving in toerrential down pours and a very rainy day all day though. I would be driving back at night time, and don't want to do that in heavy rain either.

If I do go down, I am leaving roughly 7 to 7:15 am hopefully with my son if he can wake up early to get on the road. Should make it to the Expo by 11:30 am. Planning a stop at the Woodstown Diner for breakfast.

Following up on what was just said about the day ending early… most vendors are operating with minimal inventory and many are using Thursday to pack up, so expect the exhibit room to be lighter than normal. At same time many vendors may offer heavy discounts on what they have left so they don’t have to transport it back.

I've got other travel lined up later this month (Maine and Ocean City) so I'm sitting it out this week.

If I were shopping for gear I might be more inclined to go as I like to see the products live. But I'm trying to unload some extra gear right now that I'm not using much... My home move has me wishing I could make about 75% of my stuff evaporate.

I hate moving more than anything else I can think of.

I bet Maine is real nice this time of the year though!

I really enjoyed conventions back in the day. I went to AC twice and MB-Vegas 4 or 5 times. It was fun to meet the people that post on the forums frequently. It seems that FB has more traffic than forums but you really don't get to know the people like you do on forums. A bunch of us used to carpool from SoCal to Vegas (4-5 hours depending on your starting point) and that was fun too. It was nice to party with the local guys in a different place.

I also used to enjoy speaking on audio topics at the shows too. The gear has gotten so much simpler to use in the last 10-15 years that audio knowledge is barely needed anymore for the typical single-op. Most people just go from their all-in-one controller to a set of powered speakers. Bring a few spare cables and you are better off than most DJs 20 years ago.

Yes Thursday ends at 3:00pm. Send me a message if you want to meet up. Lots of new faces, families & more women DJs than I’ve seen before. Tonight Alpha Theta sunset party with a free drink & passed appetizers, then a silent, disco headphone party under the Ferris wheel. At the Alpha party they are running an all battery powered system with 6 speakers and battery powered controller. It sounds pretty nice for being battery powered. At the show Yorkville is showing a battery powered sub if you wanted more low end. Very interesting I must say..

Well, I didn't head up to AC. The Rain kept me away. That and I ended up working a full shift and then some last night, and was tired. Maybe I can attend next year.

No worried I will post some photos and let you know what I thought might have been of interest. What floored me is the mix of people there, family who DJ together, young DJ I met one he must have been 6 years ago, female DJs & those who own their own companies. And there is still the multi ops & older DJs who have been around still the beginning of time. I never made it to any of the late night events but the early ones on Monday & Tuesday gave you some food & 1 drink. Now that shocked me. I’m down in Maryland likely it will be a few days before go thru everything
