Anyone NOT playing Michael Jackson

Based on the information available, you can be arrested for entering the opposite gender restroom if you don't 'identify' as that gender. 'Identifying' takes more than 'saying'.
There is no standard test for identifying that I'm aware of. No special license or registration. That is part of the issues.

I don't disagree - but you have to 'feel like' a woman in order to be a woman (the same applies to TG men). TG women don't 'act' like women, they are women. They talk, behave and think like women, etc. In their minds, they are a woman - and as such, they identify as a woman. They don't gain access to the women's room just because they say they are a woman. They truly identify as a woman.

Why 'straight' people have to be displaced vs pre-op TG is beyond me - seems like they're going out of their way to make things harder and more uncomfortable for them.

Way too much material to promote by programming these deviant predators and disgusting people. I don't need their songs to satisfy an audience.

If a client or polite guest requests a song from one of these horrible human beings AND it will fit in the programming AND it is popular enough to keep the floor happy, I'll consider it. I have no problem playing songs I personally don't care/like/enjoy, so filling a deserving request for such artists, with whom I would no more personally associate than any other rapist/murderer/parasite that can't sing and/or dance, won't kill me or my soul.

If I don't play em I don't announce it either, I just "rawk da haws wit udder stuff."

On a personal note, F' R. Kelly & F' MJ and I hope they both pay a heavy toll for their mistreatment of their victims.

The reality is I'm pretty confident r.kelly and MJ were doing stuff for a long time.

Yes they were found not guilty. But it's ALWAYS going to be wrong to have someone else's kids sleeping in your bed or spending lots of time with them. I don't care about what they say their intentions were. Also, Parents in both of these cases were blinded by money and fame and allowed this to happen.

I've known about these 2 for a long time. Because it's recently in the news, I may be more careful about playing their songs because some may not like it.

Jimmy Page, Mick Jagger, Jerry Lee Lewis, Doolittle Lynn (Loretta's husband) are just a few others to add to the list of being accused of sleeping with underaged.

Bruno Mars: Drug trafficking. 50 cents, Tupac, biggie smalls, jay-z. Eminem. All charged or accused of something.

If I had to do a moral background check on each artist I played, I'd being playing all Perry Como and.....well that's it, just Perry Como. But I'd have the moral high ground😄

I agree .. if morality was a limiter to playing music, most Rap/Urban wouldn't be played, same with Rock, Country or Pop.

James Brown - wife beater, John Lennon - abuse to wife and child, Ike Turner - nuff said, Eric Clapton was once a massive racist (though he claims he was drunk when he went on the rant at a concert), yada yada ...

Not sure I'd play Perry Como, but there wouldn't be much if you eliminated the music made by perverts or worse .. or if you eliminated the music itself based on lyrical content.

None of us are even remotely close to being the final arbiter on the crucial and eminent eternal judgment that every man must face so we have some wiggle room in how we behave regarding these disgusting individuals. I doubt we'll get any negative entries in our permanent record for playing or even enjoying the few positive things these men create...but I still wish them all the warranted misery possible for their behavior and if I can render some minor consequence by avoiding their songs, I do it for my own selfish reasons and satisfaction.

I will allow my clients to be the moral compass in this situation... i will not openly push for or play without consent ...but if asked to play...i can certainly seperate the artists life from his/her art.... its a slippery slope though...because the music business in general creates a fantasy world in which immorality is the currency....especially the further you go back... to pick and choose which level of morality to choose for each artist and pass some sort of judgement is foolish... and will end up with a very short playlist.

To some... an artists sexual orientation...political views...etc is enough of a fault to warrant banning them... do we want to go down that rabbit hole in our playlisting?

If an artist goes on Oprah and wins over public opinion...does that change our moral view of them personally and thus make it ok again?

slippery slope ....slipperyyyyyyy slope...

Some of us are bound to run into a guest that's offended by one of us playing MJ, R Kelly or whoever. When I get a request to "take that song off or I'll kill ya", I don't argue with them! DJing can be dangerous

When I DJ I’m apolitical... Nobody knows what I am. Too bad the recording artists can’t do that. When listening for my own pleasure, I definitely don’t listen to artists who have denigrated my beliefs. While I can be apolitical, I CAN’T turn off my faith in God. I’m not gonna judge anyone else though, that’s for God to do.[emoji1]

IMO, that might be just because you're thinking about it and the current publicity. Like everything else, it'll fade. MJ created some great music - that alot of other music is based from. Nothing will change or rewrite that. Similar applications to other artists that fall into this category - like James Brown, Rick James and plenty of others.

As pointed out earlier, if we removed each song someone was offended by because of what an artist (or band member) did, we would have a very short music list.

Well unless they are paying they will be shooting. I don't work well with threats

I think of that in a different way. If the artist is being political because of their fame, regardless of stripe I lose some respect for them. (Natalie Maines, Toby Keith) If they were always political and still became famous I admire them (Steve Earle, Bruce Springsteen)

You assume, incorrectly, much in your post as those individuals may or may not have been politically active before their stardom reach the level of fame..

What do you know of Bruce's pre-fame politics?

I've read that it was more his Catholic roots than any politics that influenced his song writing.

He made no qualms of his Catholic upbringing or his Political leanings pre-fame. He was never really outspoken until 84 when Reagan "borrowed" BITUSA.

I believe he's agnostic now

The “boss” made it quite clear he did not want his music associated with conservatives or conservative causes. But he never said anything like that until he was famous and had money. Early on, he was fine with conservatives buying his records, and I bought plenty. Not anymore. To HECK with him! I don’t play his music unless it’s requested.[emoji4]

So which is it?

Read closer it's the same thing

...If they were always political and still became famous I admire them (...Bruce Springsteen)

The only difference is I mentioned Catholicism the second time

No, wrong again.

In your initial statement you wrote "If they were always political and still became famous I admire them (...Bruce Springsteen)"

Suggesting Bruce was ALWAYS political then became famous.

Then you say "He was never really outspoken (read political) until 1984"

Since he was born in 1949 and was already famous by, at the very latest, 1974 there is a minimum of a decade of discrepancy in your statements.

I suspect your motivations for admiration are not so much in the timing of the politics but in the actual inclinations of said politics.

But fear not, at least for now, as the United States of America has always promoted for all men, even those that would do us harm, and often through serious sacrifice the inalienable human right to have your opinon, beliefs, politics.
