Looks like Alto came out with their 2000-watt (peak) cabinets (or maybe I'm just late to the party?). Wondering if anyone here has tried them. And yes, Steve, I know.....say no to Alto. Their 15" subs have been an incredible deal in my book. I love having a 60-lb sub that's easy to move yet, moves a lot of bottom end. I'm interested to know how good this new line is.

Alto TS312

Didn't hear them at the DJ Expo, but it would seem to defy physics to have enough quality in a box that sells for $300 (including shipping). My guess is they sound passable at lower volumes and breakup at higher ones. Probably fine for a cocktail hour speaker.

We used a pair of 15s that were pre-TS last year and I thought they sounded neck and neck with my QSCs. Ricky seems to have had pretty good luck at his holding up over time. If I can ever get this small venue thing going I'm tempted to install a pair of these and a small sub.

For a stationary system that might be used by others (say a business meeting or such), I would opt for a more bullet-proof system than the Alto.

I'm sure they sound OK at normal volumes .. DSPs have come a long way, but my experience with Alto (I own one) is cheap cabinet construction, lower quality connectors, and things like no gates on the amps, so you get a decent speaker hiss with no signal.

My engineering background just gets me to questioning what's actually inside for a box that GC can sell for say $275 (using a cheap $25 shipping cost). I used to work with manufacturers (used to sell and support mechanical engineering software) and the typical sales factor is around 3 .. so a box selling for $275 has about $95 worth of parts. Makes you think ....

I made no secret of the fact that my Alto TS112W’s were darn good speakers, and served me well for three years. I regret having sold them back to GC, as a good set of 12” speakers could have been useful a couple of times. I don’t regret buying the EVOX-8’s for sure. However, I want to make it clear that Alto’s sounded GREAT, even when played loudly. I never used the 12” for big dance parties... I had TS110A’s and TSSUB15’s for that, but the 12”s were perfect for smaller events. The ONLY thing with Alto’s is you can’t push them beyond their limits. If you know how to set your gain’s and eq’s, they’re darn nice.[emoji4]

This can be said for all audio systems (high and low grade) - to include Gemini, Samson, Mtx, Pyle, etc, etc.

Perhaps???... But I can’t speak to any of those others because I’ve never owned or used them. I HAVE owned several Alto Truesonic speakers, and I will continue to tell people my perspective. People who never owned or used TRUESONIC speakers simply couldn’t know.[emoji4]

Steve has tried them for me/us. I trust his judgement. ;)

Edit: I will say for what they are - they are probably a fine speaker. With that in mind, they are not in the same league as speakers they're often compared to. Again, there is a reason their price is alot lower than the others.

EXCEPT... He actually hasn’t. He owns the a portable battery-powered system. Not nearly the quality of the Truesonic line.
But I HAVE listened to them on more than 1 occasion ... and the Transport 12 is actually MORE expensive than the TS312.

There isn't a lot of magic here. Like Behringer, where I have bought and junked quite a few, I have no doubt they can be made to sound listenable, maybe even good,, but something HAS to give with $100 worth of parts.

As a backup set or as a non-critical set .. no issue.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it has played out with my Alto, my AA speakers, my Behringer, .....

Sorry, Steve, but they sound a lot better than good. You have to actually use them at REAL events to know how good they are, and I did. I frequently got compliments on my Alto TS110A/TSSUB15 combo. The only regret I have about my Alto’s is that I didn’t keep some. But if you read the reviews on sites where they’re sold, you’ll see similar very good reviews. You’ll see a few bad ones too, which I attribute to idiots who didn’t use them properly.

We'll have to agree to disagree .. :)

That’s pretty much the way the Alto debates always end.[emoji1] Not like we haven’t been through the exact same thing before. I’m not budging though.[emoji1] I’m happy with what I have now, but I still remember my Alto’s fondly. For the beginner DJ I was, I don’t think I could have done better... especially for the price.[emoji4]

Yes... It was. I owned one of those too.[emoji1] A little under powered, but Renault made THE most comfortable seats EVER! :) I bought it in Council Bluffs Iowa in 1980. Sadly, I had to trade it in 1981 when I moved to Houston. My car-poolers were glad... It only had 2 doors and no A/C.

Ya'll can keep the Alto fight up but I'm convinced. Don't know how in the world they can do it, but sure seems like they have. My Alto subs do a great job and so far they're very dependable.

Not really a fight... I like Steve and ITTigger, so I’d never fight with them.[emoji4] ... But let me take the other side for a moment. With the Truesonic 2 series, Alto removed the cooling fans. I don’t get how they increased the power, which you would expect to increase heat as well, while removing the cooling fan. The fans in my TS112’s did not run constantly, but they ran quite a lot in air conditioned spaces. How much hotter would they have run outside???. And the TS312’s are even MORE powerful, and still no fans. I’d be concerned.[emoji4]

I also do not understand how these new speakers will hold up with out a fan. Heat is the most destructive thing you can do to an amp or speaker.

With that said, my new RCF speakers also do not have a fan in them and I paid WAY more for them then I did my Alto TS110A's.

Which by the way, I did run My TS110a's to there max at a out side pool party a couple of weeks ago and no problems.

Just say no .. to Alto ... say it with me.
