I want to buy the Adobe CS4 Design suite, but I can't make sense of what's being peddled out there.

From the Adobe store it's priced near $1,800.

But simply google the name and countless vendors come up claiming "Full non-academic or upgrade" versions for prices as low as $579.

I've heard of some of these being beta or OEM disc sets, but there seems to be quite a few legitimate sites that claim these are full retail (non-upgrade) versions. What;s the deal?

Does anyone have qualified purchase/sales experience with this product and how I should proceed with getting a legitimate product at a reasonable price?

Most of those sites are selling cracked versions. Gmail probably catches about 50 spams per day for these $200 for Adobe suites and MS office sites. There are educational discounts but I believe you need a valid .edu email address.

Your not going to get it much cheaper than Adobe's price unless your buying licenses in bulk. With all the scam sites out there, the only way to really know for sure that your getting a valid license is direct from Adobe.

I know I was able to get it for just under $300, but mine was an educational copy.

yeah and Mac I bet its a cut down copy too 1/2 the things not installed :)

Nope, CS 4 Design Premium for $306.73. Full versions of all programs, just we don't get a manual.

The manuals for those are built in to the software's help menus, with links to online support. The version that we got through Purdue is a full version with all the bells and whistles; if it's cut down, I certainly never noticed. It's just that there is a negotiated contract between the educational institution and the software company to make the product less expensive for the students that need it (and the staff also reap the benefits).

But back to the OP, unless you can land in an educational type deal, yeah, CS4 can run over $1000.

if you need a manual just let me know

I could get an educational copy through instructors, but as I remember - educational copies can't be upgraded. You end up having to buy a full version later on anyway.

There seems to be a lot of vendors with Design Premium full retail (so they claim) at just under $600. These are not junk email solicitations - they are heavily exposed sponsored links.

This is an example of what I'm talking about: http://www.techdeckdirect.com/product-p/65021566.htm?gclid=CNiMndLzhJ4CFUlo5QodmSEWpA

Always Google 'domain.com review' before you buy something. :)

Maybe it's me, but the picture of the customer service online chat help wearing a sleeveless t-shirt kinda makes me want to buy elsewhere.
