Sony music is taking a great step forward by getting unethical peoples out of our industry? So, the assumption is unethical people are just going to quit the industry because it’s more difficult to pay a record pool?

This is basically the kill Napster and illegal downloads will go away all over again except they are going after people that are paying this time albeit not within their rights but still paying. It didn't work the first time and it won't work this time. The ADJA should go after people that are using VHS tapes to play videos recorded off MTV there's as least as many as there are non DJ's in record pools

I offer the following unsolicited but honest editorial:

Neither ADJA, NAME, USDJA, nor any other alphabet soup DJ collective has ever provided "legitimization."

They have often been and may still be populated, managed and operated by decent and well meaning individuals but they have never been a source for legitimacy.

Sadly, and unlike Doctors, Engineers, etc., this DJ profession, craft, industry, whatever-you-tag-it has no legit professional foundation on which to establish any legitimacy.

Many perfoming DJs have and continue to operate professionaly and with high standards and client returning results thereby establishing the "legitimcay " of those individuals...but that isn't enough to begin to legtimize the industry...and the decades long, oft repeated yet failed attempts to do so by the dozens & dozens of "organizations" is the evidence on which I base that self-depricating analysis.

I read this "press release" a days ago, ok last week, and then scrolled thru the ADJA Facebook feed, and wow, the vibe I got was it was about Drax and making him feel important .

You're right in his backyard. Is he well-known as a DJ in Arizona?

Most of these "Industry Leaders" are well known amongst DJ's that go to the boards and groups not anywhere else

Haha, I had no idea we are in the same area, I don't think he is, before learning he was the head of the ADJA( this thread) I can't recall seeing much of his name getting dropped on local soical media, I really had no idea who this guy was.

I’m starting a new association. The NADJNA

The National Association of DJs that don’t want a National Association.

You can join if you want. Send me money. How much? Doesn’t matter. Just send it.
Will you accept beer as payment ?

He lives in Glendale. The ADJA's address is a box at the UPS Store there.

The we live fairly close to each other, like maybe 15 minutes close. I am not sure if I should feel disappointed to learn the ADJA address is a PO Box, seem less important now IMO.

Not only will I accept beer as payment, paying with beer puts you in an upper tier in the NADJNA and gets you special privileges:
A welcome email from the President of the NADJNA
A NADJNA “voted DJ of the year” banner for your website
and Free ink from HP, just pay a monthly fee

To get the free ink, you must purchase a brand new printer from HP....and then pay the monthly fee. Then the ink will be free.

This was posted in one of the DJ Facebook groups from a Promo Only employee( my understanding) and these are the requirements moving forward they will be asking all new members, and the employee( Nick Hahn) said they will be asking current members for this info as well, al customers will need to meet 4( its what it sounds like, he said "meet at least 4") out the 12 to have or continue their membership .

  • 1. Company Name used for DJ Services
  • 2. Company social media page/account (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, SoundCloud, etc.)
  • 3. Company Website (URL link)
  • 4. Company E-Mail Address (not a personal e-mail e.g. Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL, etc.)
  • 5. Name and address of venue, radio station or other professional setting at which DJ regularly works
  • 6. A legible scan/photo of physical business cards bearing DJ’s professional contact information. They aren't taking obvious Vistaprints either.
  • 7. LinkedIn Profile URL
  • 8. Proof of membership of a professional DJ association (e.g. ADJA, NAME)
  • 9. Proof of DJ liability insurance (must submit currently valid Certificate of Liability)
  • 10.. Link to an event page sufficient to enable Company to independently verify DJ’s upcoming or recent (i.e., within 30 days) professional performance (DJ must be listed as a performer on event page)
  • 11. Name(s) and contact information of legitimate DJ Booking Agency. If applicable, new Subscribers need to include link to their artist page on DJ Booking Agency website. If there is no link, the direct rep information should be provided for verification, not just a general address.
  • 12. "Verified Artist” on Social Media (Must provide URL). Also...this one requirement is all that is needed if you meet it.

It's already bogus .. '"meet at least 4"' while also stating 'this one requirement is all that is needed if you meet it'.
