Adding bluetooth

Same with the Bose S1 Pro. You're still limited by distance though.

I was surprised about the lack of Bluetooth audio capability with my EON610s though... for all of the things you CAN do via the JBL Connect app, you'd think they'd be able to include streaming audio with it.
Agreed - and distance is the #1 concern of BT technology. It's not meant to go far.

Ditto.
BT is a consumer convenience meant for home or office use. It PUSHES a signal to your audio device which is presumed to be on your desk, in your car, or on the kitchen counter. It follows human nature and people listening to music or podcasts aren't expected to roam more than a few meters away from the payback device. More often than not, people use earbuds, but Bluetooth is for a shared listening experience or where you're not allowed to cover your ears - such as in the car or at work.

If you seek out user reviews - even professional products from names like Radial Engineering reveal the same level of frustration even when the linked device is in immediate proximity to the console. If I had to make a BT connection available at a corporate event, I would place the BT-DI at the location of the device. This is likely to be the podium or stage seat from which the person with the device is presenting. Thus, the link is short and immediately converted to balanced analog audio that can be routed through a snake or stage box.

For a DJ event, if you want to be able to use BT from the cake table or other location away from your DJ rig - you are going to have to do the same thing. During setup, run an XLR line to a location at or near where you intend to be and use a BT receiver that can run on phantom power (Switchcraft Stix) sending analog audio back to your mixer.

As a general rule, if I'm using a device at the console it's line powered and hard wired. There's no reason for it not to be. For the most part - lightning connectors suck. They're Apple's contribution to gaff tape sales.

Well one night last year I used the BT speaker for the first dance. They changed the planned times we were in two different rooms and kind of sprung it on me I didn't have time to switch out gear. I played the song off my phone and about halfway through it dropped. Fortunately for me I have done a lot of events with this family and no mistakes they very much took it it stride but I learned a lesson unless there are big advances in BT I won't do anything mission critical again.

I should add I never had the problem before or after that with the BT speaker. I tried to make it fail after that and it took a 100 foot walk to make it stop. I never did figure out what happened that night

Then why are many of the powered speakers starting to include BT as standard? At the very least, it makes running sound at the DJ stand from my iphone easy. The lightning connector is prone to pops. When the phone gets moved while plugged in it also often fires off Siri.
many of the discount brands are adding it as a feature, it’s cheap to add and gives them a higher perceived value

I stream music from my phone whenever we entertain at home. I have to suppress notifications from all apps including my doorbell, security cams, gmail, Outlook, Messenger, SMS, & phone otherwise the dings and bells get real annoying. The easiest way to do this is to just put the phone in airplane mode (shuts down phone, wi-fi and BT) and then just turn on BT. I have Spotify premium so I can download my playlists to the phone and not depend on the WiFi connection.

This an absolute must with BT. Another issue is how your receiver responds to other devices actively seeking BT connections. It has to be capable of a complete lockout and totally unique ID. Not all devices are. A room full of people with cell phones is a huge problem if many of those phones are actively scanning for BT connections.

Boys, I think you may be wrong about the range. I’m sitting on my patio, playing Bluetooth, no drop outs. It’s probably 60 feet and thru a door. Working solid. By the way, I put up a little pic display of some of the opry artists I worked with. This is in the venue.

It's not the range under ideal conditions, it's the range with several dozen phones in between the transmitter and receiver. Many of those phones actively seek BT devices (so they can show you the list in the settings menu) .. all actively working to limit the BT usable range.

I hope those have long screws through the frame into your wall .. "Cool" things like those tend to walk ...

Is it *that* cool though? Brides want a venue that fits their vision for their wedding. When you start putting things on the walls that are all about you (Pictures signed "To Rick...), you start taking that away. Besides, you're 3 hours away from Nashville. Nobody's going to care about a framed piece of carpet from the green room. If you had a groom's room, it *might* be a better fit there. Who are these people anyway? It's hard to make them out in this photo.

The barn is the same distance to Atlanta as it is to Nashville (Muscle Shoals appears to be closest, but R&B singers of the 60s might look even more out of place). It's one thing to get star-struck if the celebrity is in the room, but framed pictures of old, dead people on the wall probably take the novelty out of it.

Seriously? You sure have moved away from your usual, positive self.

As for the display, it's what I wanted and yes, it has gotten a lot of positive response from the locals. It stays until I decide it doesn't stay, period.

I heard Rick was going to add a picture of him on velvet playing poker with some dogs ... :)

Sssh, that's my next "big announcement". ;)

By the way, I un-plugged my BT receiver last night and noticed that myDMX Go stopped disconnecting.

5 weddings this year instead of 40 and the loss of all nightclub and corporate work will do that to a person (sorry). While your memorabilia is cool to people who know those artists and would be awesome in a mancave, I just don't love it at a wedding venue. With that said, Ryan Acres kind of is your mancave. Decorate it as you see fit.

I agree about screwing those things to the wall though. People steal everything.

I know a couple of DJs who have the Alto Stealth system that they have used for events and never an issue. They have used that system in this big hall in Kenilwoth NJ. The VFW hall upstairs in their large room and never a problem. I want that system. Eventually I will break down and buy one at least one. You can buy add ons to use for several different speakers when you have a large amount of speakers being used.

The Alto Stealth loudspeaker wireless system does NOT utilize Bluetooth technology.
