So ive been at this modern marketing/booking game for 18 months or so (so much different than my dj marketing of the 90s and early 2000's) and ive began to notice a trend.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are a booking hot spot for me...

Anyone else have this?

I booked two parties yesterday... and glancing back over emails and texts for the last few months...it seems a huge percentile of people book on tuesdays and thursdays... so i gave it some thought...and realized... people put things off til monday... they say... "im enjoying my weekend...when i get back to work on monday i will do it"... then mondays are normally super busy catching up after the weekend....which pushes things like booking a dj to Tuesday.... The same logic applies to thursday... "ive got to book a dj this week... but the weekend is coming up...i better do it before friday because friday im headed out here or there" ...so they do it thursday.

It also could be because the only days i ever market on Instagram is Tuesdays and Thursdays... ive always noticed i get the most interaction on those days...even back when i ran the puppet theater....we promoted on those days more heavily.

I guess because I mostly deal with weddings, that many of my inquiries come in either late in the evening or Saturday-Monday. That’s when most couples do their research since they’re home together and will fill out contact forms. Monday’s also the start of the week so for sweet 16’s the parents are now away from the kids and can take care of “business”.

Chris, I've suspected the exact same thing, for years. I used to send out weekly emails to all my prospective clients and found I got the best bang on Tuesdays. Speaking of bookings, I had a strange exchange, late last night. I THOUGHT he wanted to book, so I sent over the paperwork and deposit invoice. Incidentally, we spoke on the phone for a few minutes, after the initial inquiry (missing from the email exchange below). Can't say that I've ever had anyone balk at a deposit request like this:

Prospect: Service(s) requested: DJ/MC, Lighting, 9/14/2019

Me: (name), thanks for your inquiry. I'm attaching a copy of our price sheet for your review. As I understand it, you're not doing a ceremony at (WEDDING) Chapel but want DJ/lighting service for the reception only. DJ/MC service runs $850. This includes full DJ/MC service, along with dance floor lighting. Our perimeter uplighting service runs $950. If you want to do both I can discount that to $1250 for the total package. Would you like me to send over paperwork to lock-in the date?

Prospect: After looking around, we are definitely interested. I think we are going to do thr DJ/dance lighting only.

Me: Sounds good, thanks! I’ll send over the paperwork. Have a great evening.

Prospect: Why does it say $425 due today? I certainly never agreed to anything, and if I did I did not realize half was due immediately. I assume there would be more discussion and planning before any payment is made.

Me: I'm sorry, from your email I assumed that you were ready to book. Your date is not locked in until a contract is sent and deposit paid. Our terms are simple; half down with balance due one week before the event. As for planning, we send over links to our Online Planner and Song Request systems. These walk you through the process of laying out your timeline. We then do a final consultation the week of the event, to make certain that we have all your details correct. You mentioned more discussion, would you guys like to do a phone consultation or perhaps a meeting at our studio? Again, I apologize for making assumptions and not explaining more about how we do what we do. Are there any questions you have? Have a wonderful evening.
st like this before. I'm guessing there's about a 90% chance he won't book.

Now, the real question is....
how do you USE that information to book more gigs?

I don't send over an agreement until they actually say "We would like to move forward with booking you" or they at least say "Please send over an agreement for us to review"...

Once they say that, then I have questions:

1. Yours and Fiance's Full Names
2. Home address
3 Two contact phone numbers.
4. Start time and end time (If I do not know that yet)
5. (I should know the venue at this point and can google the address, but if it's not a venue I know of, I ask them for the address so I can be sure what venue it is).

This way, they have vested some time in answering questions, and they are certain they want an agreement. ...I also don't charge 50% any more unless it's under 30 days out. ....If the date is far out, it seems some people just don't want to drop 50% at that point in recent years. I never had issues 10 years ago asking for 50%, but today people are more comfortable putting a smaller amount down when the event is 3+ months away.

Thanks for the props. He wrote back and thanked me and said they'd be moving forward after he gets paid next week. Interesting (or perhaps not) sidenote, I did some investigation and think I found him on FB and he's "In a relationship" with a dude. This might be my first gay wedding. (not that there's anything wrong with that)

When I do wedding fairs / wedding expos I send out about a 100 RSVP to clients asking if they would like to be put on the guest list. I get 30 - 40 reply's that say "Thank you for the invite, But we are to busy to make the wedding fair". I have talked with a few other people who do the wedding fairs, Limo company, caterer friend, my friend that does DIY wedding videos. Wedding planer.
We noticed that same thing, that people here have busy weekends, they always have something going on. We have sort of bounced around the idea of doing a smaller "Cocktail" style wedding fair mid week. We have talked about it being more like come in, get a glass of wine and walk around, have servers wonder around with finger food. we talked about it being more like us at 36" cocktail tables rather than a full booth wedding fair. Have the brides and grooms wander around meet different venders. something like 7Pm to 10PM
