I have an interesting challenge coming in three weeks. I'm MCing an outdoor wedding that has a band as their primary entertainment. The band has to stop playing by 9:30 or 10:00 (need to double check) but guests can hang out till 11pm. The plan is to play soft music through another PA system (a couple of K-8s) while the band packs up. The music will have to be too low for dancing. It is mostly just guests mingling until the B&G make their exit. They want to wind down with the guests but would like something special for the sendoff. The question is how to make a special sendoff given the party will mostly be petered out by then. It will be peak fire season so anything with sparklers or flames will be forbidden. The ambient lighting will be bistro lights. Note: I am just the MC. I am not providing any sound or lights (the groom owns a production company).

at my wedding we had these small runs of twinkle lights with a tiny battery pack...they had like 8 hours of life on a single battery... by the end of the wedding...the entire dancefloor was filled with people wearing them on their bodies... strung around their waists and whatnot... maybe something similar could be utilized for your needs

Reactions: Dan The Man
So my GF asks me last night about the advice I received on this thread. I told her the thread devolved into twinkle lights on one's manhood. For some reason, she didn't want to know how that happened.

But seriously folks, I could use some suggestions.

Seriously, you aren't going to have a big ending, doing it the way they're planning. An event needs a definite STOP time associated to it and if you continue to play low volume music, then people won't know whether to go outside for the send off or to stand around and chat. Have a chat with your couple and drill into them "start strong, finish strong". Do it the way they're planning and you'll watch people slowly dwindle away during that last hour or so. Not a good way to end the night. Good luck.
