I have to say when I first got my Cortex HDC-3000 in May of '07 I had many issues BUT since last Novemeber I have done 40 Weddings and the Cortex has been flawless. I now use it 85% of the time while before it was more like 10/90 now it is 85/15 and I get more confident in the unit every gig. I suggest you make various folders and keep everything tidy. (ITunes does this automatically). I also suggest you use a NON bus powered hard drive I use This One: http://store.apple.com/us/product/TR302LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA0Nw&mco=NzkxNjY&p=1&s=topSellers also make sure even though it can play them you try to eliminate VBR files. I use a USB keyboard (The Indestructable type) and finding files is easy. a few other tips:

Always Delete and Re Create your database after you update your Hard Drive

Always Verify your database from your computer

The HDC-3000 pitch lock is awesome and the DSP once played with is great.

Hope this is useful to some..

ray,
what did you use before?
I've been using computers for several years. While I like my digital controller a lot, I still find myself using the computer much more than the controller as my prime player.

To be fair, I'm just now spending time putting play lists together to make it easier to access music.

The thing I find much more simpler with the computer is being able to move songs around in the playlist. With my denon, I can't seem to edit playlists while it's playing. I can manipulate it by auto crossfading to the other player.
