Jim Horn

New DJ
I want to put together a list of 'potential' questions that our leads may ask at a Bridal Show.

Here are mine:

1. How much are your services
2. How long do you play
3. Are YOU the DJ that will be performing for my wedding
4. What's your down payment requirement
5. Have you played at <enter venue>?

What type of experience do you have with weddings?
What type of music do you have?
Boxers or briefs?
Are lights include in the package?

After I do my short talk, here are the questions I receive the most:

Brides
1. Is lighting included?
2. Do I have to pay for setup or teardown time?
3. Are you available on [this date]?
4. Have you ever been to [this venue]?
5. How many weddings have you done?

Grooms
1. What kind of equipment do you have?
2. What kind of lights do you have?
3. What kind of music do you play?
4. You spin vinyl? (Cool!)
5. Is lighting included?

Parents
1. How much experience do you have?
2. How long have you been doing weddings?
3. How many weddings did you DJ last year?
4. What exactly is included in your pricing? (or they just verify after I've already told them)
5. Will you play [old song/artist/genre]?

1, How much do you charge?
2. Do you give discounts for (insert reason here)?
3. How long do you play for?
4. Is lighting included?
5. I really like you, will you match (multi-op) XXX's price?

1. How much are you?...Will you match other's pricing?
2. Are you avail on___date?
3. Do you offer discounts for ...(Fri. ...Sun...military...afternoon gigs, Etc)
4. Will YOU be the DJ?
5. How much experience do you have?

I never get asked about lighting, my equip, vinyl, Etc.
Yes, they are concerned about rates, payment types accepted, travel fees, and who will the DJ be?

who are you?
is that your real hair?
are you gonna smell that way on our wedding day?
what are the chances I can get my deposit back and book someone else?

actually
most of the questions I get are listed above

except for "why aren't you here?"
which usally comes from the owner of the multi-op I work for...and not the bride
(I hate bridal shows)

In no particular order....

Are you available for (fill in the date.)

Do you have a pricing list? or What are your prices/packages?

You provide both DJ and Photography services?

Can we set up a meeting?

Do you copyright or watermark your photos?

Mostly I'm asked similar questions but lately people have been asking me to meet other DJ's prices, which I've been reluctant to do since they are oftentimes considerably lower. I usually compromise and shave a bit off the price but try not to meet the price. I think that makes you look kind of devalued and makes them think, like, "if you can give me that price now, why didn't you do it before?"

Also I'm asked:
What kind of music do you play?
Will you play songs we pick?
Are you the DJ we're going to get?
What kind of music do you play?

Peace!

What we are trying to do here in the Capital Region is RAISE the bar, not LOWER it...The average of a wedding reception DJ should be $895, not $495. We are hearing and seeing alot of these $495 DJs..Frankly, it's insulting.

We have monthly DJ gatherings at the Rusty Nail. Email me if you are interested.

I'll insult you more...I charge $450 for up to 6 hours of performance time. :sqwink::sqbiggrin:

That's you...And your end of the world. In my part of the world, easily the average is $895. I've heard at the most $1900.

If you believe your worth $495, be my guest.

This thread has nothing to do with worth. It's about common questions asked at bridal shows. I was just kidding around with you because I do currently charge less than what you consider a low rate. Different markets, etc...hence, the smilies.
