New Venue Charge.

I bring a table and linen to sites where I think it likely to be over-looked or where tables may be in short supply. (Like tents, boats, theaters, and buildings where the tables are being brought in from a rental agent, etc.) I think it is reasonable to be prepared for instances where the venue is not normally engaged or prepared for full service of events. Sometimes I need it and sometimes I don't. Sometimes mine is just a better fit for the space.

A hotel on the other hand is staffed and equipped to do exactly that, and I have never encountered anything beyond charges for special electrical hookups and union electricians, etc.

Well this is my first time ever hearing about a venue charging a DJ for using their table. It has never happened to us. I have my own fold up table that I use with the facade to make it look more presentable. This is just me thinking. Shouldn't the venue be charging enough for a client to have an event in their venue that this extra $25.00 shouldn't matter.

I certainly have never heard of being charged for using the venues electricity or have to pay an electrician on site. My how things have changed in different parts of this country.

In my neck of the woods, 99% of the venues already have a skirted table ready for the DJ.
A few provide the table, but wait for you to setup and ask if you brought your own skirt.
Not one venue has ever been mad, annoyed, or surprised that they had to provide a table for the DJ.
And so, not one venue has ever charged for the use of a table.

90%+ of the time, I show up and there's a table already setup so it ends up being more work (and risks ticking off the venue) to take down the table they provided.

Most local venues would provide TWO banquet tables (so DJ's could set up their LP or CD cases).
Now that most of us are digital, the second table is not needed, and I do find they get a little frustrated if they have to take one down.

PS
"one skirted banquet table" is also in my contract AND in my paperwork.

Banquet Tables come in different sizes and shapes. Just FYI

REALLY?
You're just pulling my leg! ;)

Of course I know that, silly boy...
I wasn't specific because my footprint is small enough
that I can work with a 4-foot, 6-foot, or an 8-foot table.

Thats a damn big footprint!

The questions I have on this subject are why is a venue looking to charge for things like this and where does it end? Will you eventually have to bring your own toilet paper so they don't charge you for using theirs?:p

If they have a skirted table for me, great ! Now I have a place to hide my road cases and Rubbermaid tubs. Sure beats hauling them off somewhere.

I have a simple solution, we don't ever require a table - we bring our amp rack which turns into a table and use a facade in front of it, to this day it blows customers away lol. http://www.audiopile.net/products/C...ks/CUDJ-P-22/CRUDJ-P-22_series_cutsheet.shtml
Yep it is nice to be self contained. With Racks it takes up less floor space for the Booth's Gear. My Booth width/2 racks are 42". Since the facade is a bit wider i have a little extra space but I can pull in the facade if necessary.

Same here. I actually have a black skirt that goes around the table portion and any miscellaneous gear (including the folded RnR, microphone case, laptop bags, speaker stand bags, etc...) sits on the floor beneath the table completely hidden from view.

I've got a slightly different version of that case (mine doesn't have the table attachment). Do you ever have problems with it being top-heavy? Mine has been sitting in the storage unit the past year.

Put the heavier components in the Bottom. Amps etc. If at all possible.

Rick, I remember earlier this year when I was trying to decide on getting one of these, you mentioned you found yours top heavy when you used it. I mounted all the heavy components near the bottom so it is not as big an issue. I mean you still have to be careful rolling it, especially when you come to a bump (uneven concrete, door jam, etc...) But I have found as long as I am just as careful with it as I am with all my equipment it is not a problem.

I haven't had any problems with it being top heavy - I actually also have the heavy amps on the bottom but also the table attachments are very sturdy and add a lot of weight which i think probably helps. It's extremely sturdy.
