I was thinking of mabe having one at my gigs. Does this look bad? Yes or no?
Tacky does not exist in my language... xf
I probably wouldn't put one out at a wedding, but at bars -- sure thing
Think about it -- you tip waitresses, bartenders, et. al. Even at formal, fancy restaurants. Why not tip the dude who played your girlfriends fav song for you...?
Some folks make their rent payment on tips, because they don't get paid much, if at all -- think working a TT bar...
But Rick, these places do not have the wait staff going around ASKING for tips
At a Private Event, I would NOT do it. At a Club or Similar Event, I see no problem doing it. At a Club, I sometimes have to be reminded to put out a Tip Jar when a Patron comes up and asks me for it!. Never Piss off the Patron when they want something!I was thinking of mabe having one at my gigs. Does this look bad? Yes or no?
Do whatever works for you my friend. Like I stated before, there are some Events that it may be inappropriate. Other than that go for it! I have used tips at a bar to buy drinks for the patrons or even tip the waitress when she brings me a drink or water. If I am being paid for the gig, then I do not put a tip jar out. If I do a volunteer, charity, or "family/friend hired" gig, then I will put a nice leather lined jar with "tips" on it as long as they don't mind. Never tacky, but I will never do it at a paid gig that I was hired for.
People tip me all the time, even at paid gigs. So sometimes a tips jar helps me so someone doesn't have to bother me every 2-3 minutes while in a mix.
I get tipped quite often, but it's for doing my job and doing it right.
You can always put up the "Tipping isn't a city in China" sign I used to see many years ago. Or make up a DJ rate card and post it near your booth (clubs/bars only) ..
