Gang -

I have the EV lapel mics that are standard issue w/ their RE2 system.

Just this Saturday it was noisy due to much wind. The handhelds were much more quiet.

Now do you have a favorite mic element you could share? It needs to be compatible to the EV belt pack.

AT is too over loading and Shure 185 series does not work.

Thanks gang!

I believe that would be a ULM21 mic....if so, it's listed as a cardiod pattern, which means a pickup lobe above and as a result, a lobe off the backside of the mic as well (which could increase the wind you pick up). I would look for a compatible foam windscreen to further reduce wind noise if you use the mic outside a lot before looking for a new mic.

I have the same mic I believe... the Omni-Lav from EV with my RE-2.... I have the windscreen on it and still had wind noise... I think that is just the nature of the beast.... these mics are very sensitive and thus work very well for picking up the officient and the B&G.... I had mine clipped to the officient and it worked very well... except for wind disturbances.

If it is indeed an omni you need to invest in a uni. Most places I saw online listed that mic as a cardiod though, so maybe check some paperwork! A uni won't pick up multiple people as it's intentionally directional (higher gain before feedback and reduced handling noise). I could not know what I speweth....it's entirely possible! lol

I'll double check.... but, when I ordered from Ben he knew my intention was for the mic to be able to have a wide pickup range in order to be able to pick up the Officiant, B&G.... so, he quoted me for the RE-2 with Omni-Lav....

If I were running three of these I would certainly want the Uni type....

I learned a secret from Brian Harris from another board and it has been a fantastic help. Take the mic and put it under the tie of the officiant. This will act as a double wind screen. Yes if he moves to much it will rub a little but face it. It is a ton better than constant wind sound. I know this does not really answer the question that you asked but it can help this problem.

Whenever I am in a situation where the wind is too strong/changing directions, Etc....I clip the mic to the inside of their lapel or behing the person's tie. Anything that will help shield the wind. You can always bring the mic volume up if needed.

Also, use your EQ (bring the bass down) to avoid the rumbling wind noise.

I always mic both the groom & the minister. You are risking it by only using 1 mic for all 3 people.

Thought about the stealth placement after the fact. I will need to do some 'field testing' on this.

@ Bill - I always use two lavs and EQ the rumble out best I can. My ceremony rig has 4 EV units installed.

I work on the beach all the time, this is exactly what I do, or I put it inside their shirt, completely. I have had great success with this method.
