hey Im djing my first huge gig...at least for me...its a 1500 kid prom party,

now from talking to other DJ's around here and kids apperently Im supose to play only explict songs and treat these parties like bars (even though its in a field)

now I got the dirty or explicit version of all the like mainstream/urban stuff but I dont have the like other kinna "specialty songs" like...to give you a clean example "Im to sexy - right said fred"

so oviously I dont want people posting songs on here...but if someone(s) could pm me a good list of stuff they'd play at a bar or even if someone could fire of a gig report from a bar thatd be awsome

Thanks guys ODJT keeps me going alot of the time

I think I'm confused.

1) Who is sponsoring this party and has specifically asked for explicit versions of songs?

2) There ISN'T an explicit version of "I'm Too Sexy", at least not that I've ever been made aware of. Plus, I don't see myself playing that song for high school age attendees, but maybe that works where you're at.

3) Are you're asking for a list of "party classics" that would go over well for this age group, or... something else?

I know I am.... also, I know that if it is a high school event around here, we CAN'T play epxlicit versions.

sorry for any confusion to start with...the prom party comitee told me no clean versions and I asked around and found out this was norm for these events here

Sorry again I ment somthing that would be more explicit then the typical songs youd play at a highschool dance maybe a song like "I want your sex" would have been a better example sorry again...and I mean like not the typical like dirty versions of like the bigger new songs like "crack a bottle"

3) Are you're asking for a list of "party classics" that would go over well for this age group, or... something else?

more just songs that you'd play in a bar only... sorry if im not giving you enough detail its all kinna new to me

Thanks for the quick reply

Also Papa this isnt a school event but it has security and police at the gate and everything

1500 kids drinkin' in a field out in the country is a recipe for disaster. I'm hoping you haven't lost a bunch of money purchasing music, but based on what you are telling us, I'd run the other way.

And since this is your first big gig, I think I'll be the first to tell you; There will be fighting.

I would verify, possibly in writing from the client (defined as a representative of THE SCHOOL, if they are the client, NOT a student on the committee) that you are allowed to play explicit language.

I have had groups that are more reserved, and those that are more liberal, regarding content, but never this much, in front of this many, at an "official school" sponsored event. It only takes one PO'ed parent of 1500 students to bring MAJOR drama to you.

Just a big FYI out to you guys and thanks alot by the way too,

The party is held by a local man with alot of money he hires security DJ ect ect...he gets some students from the school to form a commitee but its more or less a private function sepreate from the school.

I phoned him about a half hour ago and he said explict music was expected and always is played at his prom parties (hes held it the last 12 years I also found out)

And I know fighting will be an issue and there is another more experinced guy I dj with who has done prom parties like this before going to be there with me...I also have *IN WRITING* that a secuirty member will be by stage at all times.

thanks

OK your post just answered most of mine.
I agree, find out what adult representative is in charge. You need to speak to them. Of course the kids are going to want da dirty versions. Is this a school event or a student event? If it is not a school sponsored event, and kids are out there drinking, if you are an adult and it gets busted, you to could be held liable for underage drinking.
What is the old saying DJ beware!

I would still stay away form this unless this is the type of event you want to do.

Under what was said, I wouldn't touch this event for even Peter Merry money..... :sqlaugh::sqlaugh::sqlaugh:

Seriously, this has trouble written all over it.... with a capital T.

Hope you don't end up in jail, young man.

EDIT... think about this.... a guy buys booze for 1500 underage kids. What is that about? No good can come from this.... ( or he allows 1500 kids to drink, at least, it seems )

well all I would say is , how long did you say you wanted to be in business for

there is NO way ever I would play songs for Kids that are explicit versions
what so ever so nice knowing you as a dj

have a nice day

Hahah not to be rude but Iv said at least twice that it is not a School event...also it's not a big drinkfest or anything the police will be there PEI's big security company for our concerts are doing the security...oviously just because it's teens theres going to be alchoal snuck in and what not but its not going to be that crazy, its been going for 12 years and never been busted and only once was there an incident and it was a fight outside the gates.

This is really an organized event they have posters all over the town about it and it even got plugged at one of our local stations a few times over the week.

I think what Mason's referring to would be something like the Safe Grad I will be doing this later his month. Basically it's a non alcoholic after party to the prom.

The one I m doing looks to be a little more organized (and inside) but it kind of rounds the kids all up and get's them to one place to be safe

well you better check local laws if you are playing that kind of music, if a cop has the power to get you for it its because the law allows him to do so

I know where I live (not saying you have the same but you can get the idea why I say this)

our law does not allow us top play that type of music to minors what so ever
also if its in a public place and say you play a song where people start swearing then thats yet another way they can shut me down or the venue for insighing swearing which is a $500.00 fine and has a max of $10,000.00 fine if it goes to court

thats why I say better make sure your covered 200% to play this and do by the law or the law can bite you where it hurts the most in the hip pocket

Okay thanks guys and Jeff you hit the nail on the head today we were talking about it and someone used the phrase "safegrad" but I didnt understand it.

Ill deffinitly look into the local laws and talk to some more people...

but could someone still send me a bar playlist if they got a sec:p

thanks

If I had one for you, I'd post it, but I have no bar gig presently.

Can you describe what you're familiar with, and what you believe you need help with, and maybe we can start a list?

While I do play a lot of bars quite frankly 99% of the music I use is the edited versions. Kids already know the words and will fill them in for you, adults generally don't care to begin with!

If you want really explicit lyrics though go with the chicken song!

But one of the main words you are looking for is not really that bad of a word (explaination below

YouTube - The Word "Fuck"

Mason I am in my 8th year of doing safe grads and if they are like the ones here there willbe a whole bunch of other stuff going on besides you and you pretty much turn in to background music.

If it was me in your position I would use all the uncuts I currently have and mix themup with current top 40 and remixes.

Like Mr Sharp I don't currently have a bar gig but in your case I wouldn't stress it
