Weddings Why do Clients book you???

Various reasons here...personality I think is a major plus...either you mesh with a client or you don't. Price I'd have to say, at least right now with the ecomony is a factor. My wife and I do every event together and people like that benefit...I DJ/Emcee...she helps coordinate and teach dance. We do get referrals quite a bit...we're on preferred vendors lists for 3 different venues and we get referred from previous clients too. And last but not least...since my full time gig is radio...some people know from that...so they're able to hear my personality and know what I'm like before meeting them.

Different clients have different reasons for booking us. We book a lot from one of the local bridal shows, and those folks like our price AND our personality. This year, we were priced close to 2 other DJs but people liked our personalities. We weren't just trying to make a sale, we were genuinely interested in them.

There are other folks who read the content on our website and blog and think "right on!" so they email asking if we're available and where to sign.

Of course, the fact that we're close in age to the majority of our clients helps. They know that we know what's hip for tunage and that we keep up on the latest trends. However, we'll land older clients who just think that we "kids" are great, especially where we know our older music. (That's more the J Mac; he's a classic rock buff.)

And then there's the equipment. There are people who book us because we use passive JBL speakers. There are also the folks who don't want a laptop DJ, so the fact that we use CDs sell them. Our occasional usage of vinyl tends to attract appeal, too.

We also do land some referrals as well. I'd say the cool one we have this year is a second degree referral. We did a wedding in March of 2008, the bride's cousin booked us for their wedding later that year and a friend who was at the cousin's wedding booked us for her wedding in September.

Same as above

there are many reasons, but the main is I was at a previous show and they want me because I do a great job and know what I am doing

Agreed...personality and talent which can't be taught (skills can) are at the top of the list.

Also, being genuinely nice to a guest when they come up to you is critical. That alone may be the one thing that separates you from all the other cr*p DJ's in their eyes - "one on one he was nice to me".

If they are young and female, they may be a future bride.

Fun, most of my clients like that I am a fun, personable guy. I am also close in age to a lot of my clients so I understand where they are in life. A lot of my work is referral based, I have two halls that recommend me exclusively and a few customers that love to pass on the good word.

young...

do you really know why? How many clients tell you why they booked you?

We can guess most of the time, but a very small % will tell you why.

The times I have heard it was my personality and professionalism.

I based my answer to this thread upon what my clients have told me about why they chose us over the competition.

I think most people book us because we promise to make sure the evening goes the way they want. We find out what is important to them and what isn't. We promise to work with other vendors and the bride and groom to to put together the plan and the vision the bride and groom have.

We let them know, based on what they've told us, how we envision the evening going and make sure we actually do know what they want. We promise to do everything in our power to execute that plan.

And then we fufill that promise. Makes for lots of referrals.

mostly..."saw me at an event"...
it's the one form of advertising that automatically expands exponentially every time you use it!
:sqwink:

Pity.

Oh wait - to answer the OP, it's usually a combination of the 3 (personality, performance & yes, price).

Or is it pity?

I get great word of mouth! 99% of my events are referrals. Price to not a factor.
I hear that I'm worth it!
